    Hi,

saw my vinyl seat coming apart this summer. Finally I think something has to be done. Tried to stitch it up myself (not much of an expert), looked like the work of a 3-year old.....tried an interior specialist who told me "Seats covers have to come off", gave me a price I thought too high. Can I ask some DIY ideas from you guys.
What do you think, chance to fix it myself? I`d like to leave the seat cover in place and not remove it.

    Thanks

    Jens

You have to take the cover off. Here the labor would be about 100 dollars. If the fabric is costly this could drive up the price.

I gave up and ordered a new cover. The seats looked good but dry rot had set in.

Oh no, guys, you got me wrong. I wanted to hear things like: sure no prob, use this kind of glue, stitch it up that way, everything's gonna work out fine...no, seriously, looks like there's no easy way through this, right? Where to get a good seat cover? Legendary Interior? Any other idea?
    Thanks

Burnished saddle is your interior code? If so, you may want to advertise for a donor used panel under Parts Wanted. If you put a new cover on that seat, it may look odd relative to the passenger which still has the old cover. An alternative would be to change the covers on both front seats.

Yep, guess that`s it, but would have to check on it. You think it`s a DIY job, getting these covers on there? Seen a video on YouTube, looks like one has to know what to do to make it look fine afterwards...Anyone ever tried these vinyl-repair-sets? Sure doesn`t look the most beautiful, but still, if it would stay elastic enough not to break loose again, it`d be sufficent for the moment.

You may want to consider whether you need to replace the cushions while the covers are off.

I think the only people who will tell you the vinyl repair kits work are the companies that sell them. You can replace the covers yourself, but you’ll need hog ring pliers, a lot of patience, and a few bandaids. I’d ask around, maybe find an old school upholsterer or furniture repair shop.
    Good luck!

Wow, patience, that`s exactly my thing...no seriously, thanks for your opinions and comments on my case, looks like I`m in for some interior work...Jim, I thought the same, if it`s alreday off the seat why not giving the whole thing a good workover.
