I've been playing around with a couple radios and my am/fm big car radio works so I have a solid setup. I bought a parts list for the am but it doesn't seem to have the fuse that the am/fm has that is the first thing to check for no operation. I'd like to get the am working while I search for a Skylark/GS am/fm. Any advice would be welcomed.

    Thanks all,
    Mike

Any reason you want a working AM radio?

Does it have any signs of life or just static?

Do you hear it through the speaker?

Yeah....if you can barely hear a station when it is turned up all the way....just may be the DS-501 output transistor....

    I think the AM's actually take a DS-503.

No, nothing through the speaker at all.

    Does the light come on?

Another thing- you have to have either a fader installed or the factory jumper in order for it to work

How did you make out with the radio? Are you using a fader or a jumper?

I'm not using a fader or jumper. Is the fader the radio knob? I've been tearing apart wiper motors.

Wouldn't a fader only be used if a rear seat speaker was ordered? No sure if you have a rear seat speaker.

So in order for the radio to work, you have to have one or the other installed to complete the circuit, otherwise you'll get nothing. The radio will be DOA

This is the factory jumper in the correct location. The jumper was put in if the car didn't have a rear speaker-

And this is the fader for cars that had a rear speaker. The fader balances the sound from the front speaker to the rear

If your car didn't come with a rear speaker, you can still use a fader. You would just have to rotate the knob so all the sound goes to the front speaker
