    Hey all,

I am looking for a set of steering arms to fit my 72 Skylark. After my disc brake swap / steering box change I noticed my turning radius was narrowed, and pointed to a box with limited travel. Seems I hit the stops but after snapping pics of what I have they do not match what I see on the interweb.... meaning the box is fine. Mine are thicker. So I am looking for a good pair to replace them with. Let me know what you have...

These are the arms I have and they do not seem to match A Body ones.... anyone? Big car arms?

    those look correct....

sounds like the pitman arm is wrong on the box maybe

Thanks, Scott. Learning about this more... the wheels seem to hit the stops on both sides. If this is the case, how can the pitman arm be on incorrectly?

how many turns is the steering box? I have the steering arms 50 shipped and I will toss in a pitman arm just in case.

    Hector,

I have box 27-6509 which is the fast ratio for chevelles 2.5-3 turns, and used my old rag joint / pitman arm. Let me check things more in detail once I get it back from having a gear swap done, then get back to all of you.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Mark, interested in what you did to resolve the turning radius issue after converting to the Chevelle steering box?! I know this is an old thread... thanks for any help.

If your steering arms hit the stops at both right and left lock, I'm pretty sure that isn't your issue. Also, the arms are the same for disc and drum brakes as far as I know.

What issue are you having? Limited turning circle?

There were a few different castings throughout the years, but the arms are the same for disc & drum.

its your box a 2.5 will limit the turning radius.

more so if it was a shady rebuilder and added the big stops to a 4 turn to get 2.5 to 3

The number he gave is AA1-Cardone; no telling what their ‘assemblers’ (not rebuilders!) did or didn’t do to it.
