Your best bet is to get an original off a low mileage car. I have the repro on my 71. The current repro yellow striped hose tends to dry rot within a ear. Not just this repro but all of these repro vacuum hoses. I bought a set of striped vacuum hoses and they lasted a year. All the ends cracked and split. Wound up throwing them out
Frank McIntyre, AKA Buicfrank, was doing them, but I think he sold everything he was reproducing to a couple of the major Vendors (CARS was 1) and quit the Business. JR
I purchased one of Frank's hoses several years ago. Yes, they do split at the hose connections. Fortunately, I looped several inches of the hose behind the brake booster so when an end cracks, I just cut off the end, then reconnect.
George, If you are not in a huge hurry and don't get one beforehand, I have a nice used original hose here. I won't be able to access until at least after the holidays. Matt
I was using 40 year old hoses with no problem. They don't hriw rubber trees like they used too I guess.
Today, I checked the yellow-striped hose I bought from Frank. The hose is full of fine cracks. Will it leak? Do not know as I have never had to use the washer. I will just buy some regular black washer hose.
I had the same experience with the repro I bought. Can't remember where I bought it. Yellow stripe looks great, rubber is cracked and dry rotted.
Amazing 40 year old hose is better than new? I have original in a bin and still perfect. Going to keep it. 70 used thinner brownish yellow stripe. 71 had wider brighter yellow. May have been different vendors? This is just what I have taken off original cars.
