Hello to everyone. Recently purchased a 62 skylark with the 215 not too bad a shape but I surely have a long way to go!
I am hoping to pick some brains. For the past two weeks I have read and taken notes on the internet. The things I seek I seem to not find info on. Thanks Jim for granting my request to join! Any of you members with the sweepspear design I'd love to chat and gleen info!
I am off to fill out my profile and possibly start my rebuild thread. But that may have to wait till evening as I am sure to be lost in reading threads
Name is Joel look forward to the day it hits the road!

    Hi, welcome to the board!

I'm sure there are guys on here who can help with your questions, but I recommend you start by getting the factory chassis and body service manuals.

Thanks for the welcome. Working on the chassis and service manuals via friend at a book store. Should she not locate them. Any sources in mind? Built stands today to get it where work will be convenient. Hope to get it off the trailer this weekend and resting easy.

Welcome!! (Re: wet behind the ears with a 62)

Dear rskybizintrees and V-8 Buick lovers,

First, welcome to V-8 Buick!! [IMG]

Unfortunately car service manuals have certainly slipped beyond any publisher. You have two options most likely:

There are some enterprising types who have created CD-ROMs with the contents of various service manual. I don't know if the 62 is included on such disks, but you might try places like eBay to see.

More rare but much more useful are the actual printed copies which also appear in places like eBay, V-8 Buick, Craigslist and so on. A great start is to ask for one in the V-8 Buick parts wanted section.

A third thing to potentially look at is to see if the manual is online somewhere. On the kindred spirit website Team Buick there is the 1960 Chassis Manual. That might be of some help until you can locate a 62 chassis manual.

    Hope that's some help!

    Cheers, Edouard :beer

    Welcome to the board!

There's a Yahoo message group dedicated to the 215V8's and there's a lot of knowledge to be found there if you ask the right questions. It's been around since 1999 and I still get their weekly digest. Not THAT much there about the chassis, but there's certainly a few guys there to ask questions to that know the platform.

    http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/215V8/?v=1&t=directory&ch=web&pub=groups&sec=dir&slk=2

I'd join the group and ask away, worst thing that can happen is you won't learn enough. :)

There's also a few guys on here that have done some work on 62-63 Special/Skylarks to modernize them a little or race them. You'll probably find the people here very helpful if you ask specific questions.

Good luck, and PM me if I can be of any assistance.

    - Freed

Well it is coming along I got the last of the stuck pistons out. Making a guess it was parked due to crank wear. All cleaning up nice on a slow and steady basis. All Chrome polished, packed and put up.Body has begun Sanding my nights away.

    Hi:

welcome to the site. Yes, there are a few of us with the '61-'63 Skylark/Special "baby Buicks" - glad to help out where I can (I have a '63 Skylark convertible). Like others have said, best starting point is to locate the chassis and service manuals - I had pretty good luck on eBay.

    cheers, Ray

Not a frame off for sure;) it is far from gone and with limited patching I can keep it original. Seems to be no patch panels available so I made rockers with a sand cast and lots of hammering.
Pardon my ignorance but what constitutes "standard"? I have it stripped to the dash with headliner intact as it is whole. A few small holes in trunk and back seat I will make small pans for. No rush just love it all the way!
Thanks for the link as I will still need to figure out how to balance the motor once the block is back from magnafluxing and checking specs. Throw some pictures up in a few hrs.
    Cheers Joel

Congrats on getting a great little car. I've been working on mine on and off for about 12 years now and have been "getting close" the past 4 yrs. For engine mechanicals check out "aluminumv8.com" You could also buy manuals from them. If you are going to do your own rust repair and painting, check out "the auto body store" paint forums. Great site for painting. Are you a Buick Club member? Their web site forum has a "for sale/ want to buy" section. Not alot spoken of the 61-63 special/ skylarks but good general info. THIS SITE IS THE BEST!
    Good Luck, Rick
