My driving test happened in a 1969 AMC Rambler American. The driving test was uneventful.
The Rambler was the dullest possible shade of brown but I jokingly named it The Bronze Machine. 232 straight six and a Torque Command automatic. drove it all through high school. Boy, did I wish it was one of the rare ones with a 290 V8 and a T10.! Of course, I was safer with the slush box and 232. Still managed to get into trouble though ...

I did mine in the driving school's urine-yellow 1977 Camaro, I think it was a Berlinetta, it certainly wasn't a z-28. It had a 305 and an automatic, and didn't have enough power to get out of it's own way. I didn't really fit in the car too well, and parallel parking was a nightmare in it. I blew a speed limit on the first test and flunked, but passed on the second attempt. A day later I bought my first car, a 1970 Chevelle sedan with a decrepit 6; - it was faster than the Camaro. After experiences in both of those clunkers, I bought a second-hand 75 LeSabre hardtop and never owned a recent model Chevy ever again. One of my first forays into old cars was a 49 Chevy; - a solid but incredibly lethargic beast, and that cured me of Chevys forever. It's been Buick ever since.

In 1965, I drove my Dad’s 1925 Model T Touring to town by myself and I had put the top down for better visibility. This was my Dad’s best Model T so I always had to be extra careful with it. When the State Trooper who gave the test walked up to me he ask why I was driving without a license driver with me. I told him that both of my parents were working and couldn’t make it. He walked around the T and asked how long had I been driving. I told him around two years or so. He looked at my permit and ask me what my Dad’s name was. When I told him, he said he knew him. He got in on the passenger side and said, let’s go. I gave the crank about a quarter turn pull and the old T started up. I stepped over the drivers side door and got in and we started around the block. I knew what the course was because I had seen others drive it before. Everything went good and I made all the correct hand signals as the T had no brake lights or turn signals. After the parallel park, usually you pull back up to where you started but not today. He told me to continue on down the street and we drove about four times further than the normal test area. It was a nice day and I think he had never ridden in a T before because he ask a lot of questions and wanted to know about the three peddles in the floor. Low gear, reverse, and the brake pedal. When we got back to where we started, he handed me the signed papers and instructed me to drive carefully on back to the court house to pick up my license.

1978 Buick Skylark two door that my folks bought new. Test day was May 8, 1990. The car became mine and drove it until after the end of my first year of university. My dad wouldn't let me keep driving it because the floors needed patched again, the quarters were pretty well shot and it dog-tracked like crazy. That and school was a 5 1/2 hour drive and I always had five of us in the car for those trips.

Summer 1965. I lived on a little hill farm in NE KY. I had a spinster Great Aunt who had asked me a few days before to go to town with her "help" her shop for a few things, (just be a friendly companion). When we got to town I asked if I could use her car to take my driver test, fine with her. She had a 1959 Edsel 4 door sedan. I had never ridden in the car until that day. So the first time I drove it was when I slid behind the wheel and the exam officer got in the passenger side for the driving test. I passed with no problem, probably a small miracle.

After the test she put down about 30 feet of new stripes in front of the DMV:eek:.

Thinking it was 1977. Did most all the required learner permit driving with an adult in my moms 73 Robbin egg blue Ford Pinto. But for some reason I did my test in the Chevy Luv truck. little 4 banger and a manual trans. First time around the instructor told me to make a left while I was sitting at a light in the R turn lane. Waited until it was clear, signaled and turned left. Fail! Next day at a different office I passed with no problems. I ended up with the Pinto as my first car. It was a rusted out pos but the fastest thing on the street. ( IMO)

Car I took first test in was 1968 Chevy station wagon that belonged to driving instructor. I took commercial text in 1948 Chevrolet truck that belonged to my boss at the time. It had commercial plates on it so it qualified in Texas in 1970.

My moms 1978 Maroon 4 door Chevy Chevette in 1980. She loved those things. I think she had 5 or 6 of them. Dad bought her a new one every two years. And she was not happy when they quit building them lol

My parent's 1988 Oldsmobile Touring Sedan. That thing would light up the front tires no problem, and was the getaway car for a lot of high school shenanigans. It was dark blue just like this one, so you couldn't tell if it was blue, black, green, or purple at night, and looked like a Chevy Celebrity, Olds 98, Buick LeSabre, etc., so was nice and incognito. A fantastic car.

I aced my written test...not one wrong answer. I can still remember when taking the drivers test with the families '69 Bonneville, my father said to drive with confidence and don't just puddle around. So when doing the back up Y turn I guess I did it a little to aggressive. I passed, but the instructor mentioned I did everything correct, but going a little to fast with the Y turn. lol
