I have 2 Buicks, a 1958 Century Riviera 2 door with a 364 Nailhead Turquois in color. Original paint and original chrome and stainless. Motor is original with 1 rebuild on it. I'm looking for an a/c compressor for it. That's the only thing i'm missing.

I also have a matching numbers 1970 GS455 Convertible. White with black interior and top. We are finishing up on the restoration (rust in the rockers). Motor has no rebuilds and no smoke.

I own a '57 Buick Riviera Special. I got it from a friend of a friend and have been desperately trying to get it running for a couple months now. Barn Find turned money pit. I'm trying real hard to keep it original because that's the way I found it. It is all original and was sitting in the Ca desert since 1985. No rust damage just good ol patina.

I discovered bent push rods so I am in the process of removing the heads to have them rebuilt. That is of course if I can ever figure out how to remove the master cylinder. The wonderful engineers had a special tool that I can't seem to locate.

It's my first Buick. Hopefully I can bring her back to glory soon. I love the lines on this car but hate the 1 off nuances.

Oh, a couple of them decided to travel the world and at least one of them ended up staying Down Under...... ;-)

Very nice in Red! I haven't decided if I will change the color, but I will retain the factory White painted roof. I notice you haven't recolored the faded Black parts (between the red lenses) on your tail lights. Are you planning to leave them like that? Mine are faded away as well. Any problem registering a LHD car down under? In Vancouver B.C. there were all sorts of Skylines and other Japanese imports RHD, however not permitted in Quebec as far as I know.

    Thanks.

I have big plans ...I have a few boxes of spare parts incl. trim between rear wheel and rear bumper that's missing, NOS (super-rare!) tail lights and lenses...it really does need a respray because the paint is tired and stuffed but looks good from 50ft after a waxing.... but in summer it is a daily driver to work (60 miles round trip), to the beach, with the dog on board, etc. And in daily driver condition I do not have to panic about dirt, dust, dog hair or where I park it.

Don't get me wrong, I keep it nice, but it is not concours, and nor will it ever be. I don't have the money to chase my tail from Down Under for unobtanium correct fasteners and stuff...and it's not my style to do so. I just want it to be stone cold reliable and to get as many looks per mile as it can. and it gets plenty. I love the one-colour, no vinyl roof look.

It was imported to Australia in 1987 and converted to right hand drive shortly afterwards. Sometimes in the 90s I guess it was converted to LPG (''propane'') which is cheap here, WAY cheaper than gasoline. I can afford to drive it daily because of that. A lot of big thirsty USA vehicles run LPG here as they do in the Netherlands, Belgium, etc. I will no doubt run into Original Equipment Mutant guys who sneer at a right-hand-drive LPG Wildcat with twin barrio-style aerials, but i have yet to do so. I don't hang about with those kinda folks. I wanted an affordable 67/68 two-door Wildcat with the incredibly awesome fastback lines more than I wanted a concours version. And actually, I dig the twin antenna!

You can import left-hand-drive cars into Australia and register them, but they have to be at least 30 years old. There is a federal government-approved list of more modern vehicles that can be imported left hand drive but must be instantly converted to right hand drive to pass state inspection. Which is why people are driving 2015 Dodge Challengers or Camaros that have cost them $100,000-plus!! And which is also why the new Ford Mustang, now made in right-hand-drive, for the Australian and UK markets, is now a MASSIVE sales hit here at about $50,000.

I got my Wildcat cheap ($14,000!!! yep that's CHEAP here!) because it had been left to rot just a bit....I caught it in time and now it's good to go any day the sun shines. Had it almost four years, done 12,000 miles in it. It now has a bad-ass stereo system (sorry) and is made to cruise.

It has the original 430, the original buckets and console option (TICK TICK) , and now it also has almost zero rust as a result of me spending more than what I paid for the car at a friendly local shop getting them to make it roadworthy and pass state inspection and do a lot of much-needed repair works all throuh the car. Sadly, I don't have a hoist and I don't weld. Luckily, in early 2014 I had just sold a house in the UK and had money that I have never had since. Timing is everything...

When the kids are through college, this cash-strapped single dad will be dipping into the pension fund and getting the body panel gaps straightened, having it painted black cherry metallic or some kinda dark burgundy metallic, get everything rechromed, run the 430 through the local engine specialist and no doubt spend some of my kids' inheritance at TA Performance and on air freight of necessary replacement engine bits, and drive off in a real showstopper... and then I will give myself anxiety attacks if it is ever outta my sight in public LOL. Even at mates' rates as we say down here that's a $25,000 drive to near-perfection. In my eyes.

Meantime, I just drive it for fun and enjoy it. And spring is here!

Fascinating Tale! I found mine 6 months ago for $2,850. and am still going through the inspection requirements as I found it on Kijiji in Alberta and had it sent by rail to where I live now in Montreal Quebec.
It still has the original paint that's very sun burnt from life on the prairies, but I plan to rat rod it until the budget allows for a paint job. The only real rust apart from some minor spots above the rear wheels is in the trunk behind the rear wheel wells and this was flagged as a defect during the inspection and was one of the points it failed on. There are aftermarket repair parts available to replace the rusted metal from a 1967 Impala that I'm expecting this week along with a new centrelink for the steering. Next, the gas tank needs to be rebuilt and the damaged filler neck needs to be replaced at the same time. A 67-68 Wildcat 2 dr.was always on my "rust bucket list" as I just love the fastback styling as well. I do find the grille somewhat boring and plan to install the egg crate style grille from a 225 of the same era otherwise I plan to keep the exterior stock. My interior looks like raccoons have been living in the car with a thrashed headliner , seats and carpeting. Sadly, my car is the lesser model with a bench seat and finding the correct buckets and console is expensive and almost impossible to find up in Canada.

I am toying with the idea of installing the interior (bucket seats ,console and rear seat) from a 1995 Riviera that I found on Kijiji for $1,000. but for now, I have to concentrate on all things mechanical for the out of province inspection to obtain plates. I have restored many American cars in the past and was not aware how difficult it can be to find parts for this particular car! There is almost nothing available as far as body parts and trim is concerned, although some window and door seals may fit from other G.M. products. One upper ball joint had to come from the States and with duty, exchange and shipping came close to $200.00!

To me these iconic fastbacks represent the end of an era. Was the car ever available from the factory in Rt. hand drive? How was the conversion handled with respect to the dash? I would love to see a shot of the interior of your car! Bottom line is I'm at the very beginning of restoring this car and even as it sits, I get plenty of thumbs up as all it's brothers and sisters have long rusted away up here due to the use of salt in the winter months.

Good luck with your car and may you have many trouble free miles driving it! Great pics by the way!

1985 Buick Regal. Had a 231/Th200c, was replaced with a 1976 Buick 350 with a TH350 out of a '79 firebird, and now I'm building a '70 SP 350 for it and another TH350. Teal motor is the '76, Red is the SP.
