Ok, I'm in the middle of working on the quarter panels. This is what I found after removing @ 1/4" or more on bondo. Again, the body line was filled in with bondo to cover up the weld. They did this the entire length of the panel. It looks like I'll be able to work on the rest, but this looks like it really needs to be cut back off and put on different. I was thinking about cutting off the top 3 or 4 inches of the new panel to get below the contour lines. Is that possible, or will there still be a problem. What do you guys think. Thanks, Dan
I would cut the repair panel off flush at the next lower body line and weld it on right on the body line, providing that the original panel was not cut off above it. Dale
That will take some serious work probably on both panels (Mostly the qtr of corse) to get it close. You will likely have to give and take a little in the door adjustments as far as in and out on the top and bottom. From what I can see from the pics, it looks like the car took a hit in the B post pretty good and was never fixed right, but it doesn't appear to need a pull of some kind. Just a good bodyman.
To my amazement, they never removed the original panel. They only covered over the rusted panel. That's how I got the original marker light holes. They are inside the trunk, still in place. I can cut the new panel down to almost the bottom, and still have the old 1 to weld to. ou: Dan :3gears:
Well I cut it off today, and welded it back together. With much less bondo, less than 1/4 of what I took out, it doesn't look too bad. Still needs a little more smoothing out, but should look good when done. Here are a few pictures of the progress. Enjoy, Dan :3gears:
Just a suggestion- might want to change the subject line to attract the right crowd. Maybe something like "quarter panel repair question". The current subject is pretty vague, and could include questions about breaking up with your girlfriend or how to improve your golf swing... -Bob C.
That's true Bob. But, I had put in the Color is Everything forum so most should know it has to do with body work. That's car body work ou: I'll see if I can think of another title to use for it. Something with a little more catch :Brow: Thanks, Dan
