Got some fenders yesterday with only a little surface rust on the backside, my question applies to them and also the original fenders off our '70 that will require some work as they had a few rust through's. After cleaning up the rust, what do you paint the backside with. Body color seems to be the obvious but expensive option? Thanks for the help as usual!:TU:
Good Question - I am going to soak them in rust neutralizer and then POR 15 them at the dog leg. Body color the rest. Rust through's are no fun! - Bill
I used a satin black rubberized gravel guard applied with a 'shutz' gun, which is also available in handy rattle cans for small applications or touch ups. Just ensure the overspray doesn't get on exterior painted surfaces - also a lot easier to remove than undercoating, and makes for a very clean, neat, new finished look. It can also be used as a sound deadner, to finish interior floor pans and trunk areas too. Good stuff !! :TU:
I've heard of people using things like the spray on rhino liner on the underside of the car and I always figured that would work in the wheel wells too.
Personally I would media blast, use a self-etch primer then use a satin black. I like a product called chassis saver which is a tough product.
Great suggestion, I am also planning to do some painting job on my car and also considering installing fender.
