"electric banana" in a "hi-performance cars" magazine test (oct 1970) this is not the same car, but still interesting to read
There was more than one electric banana. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/has-anyone-seen-this-70-gsx.330627/#post-2776970
For the 71-up 8.5 rear GM parts listed a 5.00 gear. What the heck was that for? That was before 1/8 mile drag racing. I guess for off-road or farm use....
And the 0 to 60 and quarter mile times in that test were bogus. Joe Oldham admitted in his tellall book that he made them up because they didn't have time to take it to the track.
The Electric Banana that I owned was the car featured in PHR April 1978. I purchased it in 1985 from Suncoast Classics in Palm Harbor FL. and sold it in 1994 to a man in Orlando FL. The only changes I made to the car were 2 1/2 chrome plated exhaust and the Weld wheels. I would like to have that 4.78 posi. and a 200-4r in my GS350.
It still had your wheels on it when I bought it from a guy on Long Island whose name is known to Jason Cook. I sold it to the current owner and Board member, Jerry Law.
Thank you for the information. I'm surprised how many owners this car has had. When I bought the Electric Banana it was on consignment. The salesman told me it was owned by a doctor, the asking price if I remember correctly was $16,000 or $16,900.
