I thought I would start this thread and poll to gather stories and thoughts on the subject. Please share yours.

I for one have never named any of my cars until today. I am sure that not everyone does. Rest assured I have called my BUICK cars plenty of names (not too nice) while working on them over the past 25 years. I have named projects, such as the four-door four on the floor project and the 4 door slammer when I planned to 4 speed the 4 door car, then planned to big block it; neither one of those projects came to fruition. My buddy years ago named the 68 BUICKAMINO the Bap-Mobile whose namesake was derived from the BIPITY-BAP of the GS105A cam.

I have never named any of my cars as do so many with a common name. Over the years the concept of personalizing a car with a girl name or even a boy name, which I do not hear too often, has intrigued me. There is a feminine tendency in America, and a masculine tendency in Europe. Feeling like I was missing the boat over the years, I tried to come up with the right girl name for my cars, but, no name ever took hold.

As I stated above, I for one have never named any of my cars until today. It came to me when I was not even thinking about it. Yesterday evening while out for a spin, after banging through the gears the wife groaned at me this thing is going to give me whiplash.

So there it is; I own my favorite car that shares the same name as my favorite song; and it's namesake is inspired by the ride; a name quite fitting. Thanks honey, oh, and sorry about the whiplash.

I dont name em usually but I talk to em. Usually have a good repore. Though my Firebird has been nutin but a Bit** lately. Probably cause the Buick get all the attention but only cause its more reliable or problems are easier to fix.
All that computer FI still in the Bird make my A** itch when a problem comes up. As it always cost 3 times as much as it should to find the real problem.

My 85 Regal is named "Lucy" because she is sweet and the TR7 with a Buick V6 motor I'm finishing is named the "Atomic Wedge" (hope it holds up to its name).

My '63 Wildcat is called.... what else... "The Sergeant Major" I figured that after 24 years in the Army, and having attained the highest enlisted rank, and that this car was probably the highlight of any hobby that I have ever had, the name fit.

My green car is commonly known as the "Dinosoar", but I call it the Green car. The grey one is "Dinosaur", but I call it the Grey car.

I'm trying to think of something good for the Estate wagon, but haven't come up with anything yet. Wah-gone isn't unique enough. Maybe something cryptic like Luftboot? (wind boat, I think)

Will probably end up being the Blue car!

Mine's got a different name for sure..
    The story goes like this.

I had been searching for a care for a couple months.. just hadn't found the right one.
Dare I say I was actually looking for a Chevelle. :Dou:

Looked at couple - nothing caught my eye

My father-in-law was visiting and he had picked up the old car trader and said "what about this Buick?" I wasn't that interested but it was a convertible, and I knew it was similar to Chevelle.

I called about it on a Saturday, the guy said that I could see it the next day as he was on his way to a show that night. I agreed.

I hung up and my father-in-law said "phone him back! It must be nice if he is taking it to a show"

So I phoned back and they guy agreed I could see it then. We drove 2 hrs and as soon as I saw it I knew I was having it.
Turned out to be a GS too. To tell the truth, up till that point I really didn't know the significance it being a GS. Drove it, loved it, made an offer

The guy was nice enough to let me keep the plate on it so I could drive it home too.

After I had it for a couple weeks, my wife said what are we going name it?
She came up with the idea to name it after her dad...since he is the one that kinda pushed me away from the Chevelles and all. (he had all Olds when he grew up including a 68 442)

His first and middle name are Gerry Llewelyn

But, since as mentioned above cars are usually girl names my beauty became known as --> Gerri Loo
