Good thing I noticed this today before I took the car out for a spin. Just last week I had this thing on the interstate at 80+ mph. Could have been disastrous. Unfortunately Center Line has ceased manufacturing and it will be next to impossible to replace this wheel. Too bad because I really liked the look of these wheels.
I've never seen a wheel split like that. What style was it and was it a "racing wheel" not intended for street use? Just curious because I know there's a lot of cars running racing wheels out on the streets.
That blows, not sure I would want the other rims on even if I could find another but they do look like a nice looking rim
My thoughts too. I've called several wheel distributors in California who bought up CL's inventory to try to find a replacement just to get the car on the road until I get new wheels and tires all around.
I'm thinking Centerline grabbed all thier seconds and sold em just before closing the doors. I got 2 new 15x8.5s for my Skylark , threw them in the basement. They went outta business. I took em to get mounted months later , and one required an enormous amount of weight to balance it. Dismounted it , spun tire on rim and tried again , no luck. I'm going to use it , but at the first sign of trouble, I will buy from Weld Wheels. I would be leery of any Centerlines sold during this time period, especially if being sold used, "only mounted, never used". Once a mainstay in the performance community , takes a dump on the consumer on it's way out.....Thanks Centerline......Jim PS: Curious when the rim in question was bought?
This is precisely why I bought from them. Now I may be stuck with a $400 hunk of aluminum , actually 2 of em , with no recourse. I'm interested in how widespread this is. Being an item sold to performance enthusiasts, a failure could result in death. I would like to see a class action lawsuit . Jim
Sure what if the next rim does it on the inside where you can't see it......not me I would park it till I got new rims of some kind. My life, my families life, everyone on the roads life is not worth it
I had a set of expensive Japanese Work Equip 05 wheels that someone had ran into a center lane divider with, going about 60 mph...the two front wheels were crushed by the impact. I picked up the set of four for about $175, put another $500 into having them repaired, balanced, polished, and repainted. Drove on them for the next 3 years, and they are now my backup set for another set of rare wheels (AVS Advan Model 5) on my Lexus. Getting another set of them used runs anywhere from $1800-$3000, when you can find them. I'd say it was worth it.
