Just curious when the first sport wheels came out. Like if you bought a 59 was there an option for them?
The Electra for 65 was definitely not available with the wheels, and I am almost certain LeSabre either. The Chrome plated wheel was only available on Wildcat in 64. They were called the Formula Five btw
There have been many versions of the Buick 5x5 chrome road wheel over the years. The very first chrome road wheels were found on a '63 Wildcat 445 show car. The Buick 15" chrome road wheel was first available on '64 Cats, and then on '65 Cats and Riviera. The 5x5 bolt spacing is common to all the RWD full size cars 1964 to 1987, so the 6 varieties of chrome road wheels will fit a lot of different models, but they are all different designs, and applications ! Likewise, there is also a 5 x 4 3/4" chrome road wheel used on RWD intermediate cars, and some full size. First introduced in '65 with 8 various designs up to '87. :TU: This information is taken from an article published by James D. Brothers. BCA#27388, ROA#5626.
The down-sized 1977-1990 LeSabre sedans and coupes without the HD package used the 5 x 4.75 bolt circle. Wagons came standard with the "Big GM" 5 x 5 bolt circle :TU:
And now there are custom 17x8s you too can build! Here are mine: Shod with 275/55R17 tires all four corners. Speedo is dead on accurate. If you want instructions and a detailed drawing, just send me a private message. Too large to attach here.
