A local 64 HEMI Dodge then from Fayetteville perhaps driven by a local guy, Melvin Yow. It was ordered, bought new and raced by a local friend who is still alive and who works every day.
What an awesome post. I have huge issues with vintage drag pictures. Car porn. Thank you. I remember gas dipping around 60 cents a gallon around 85-87 somewhere in there. My Olds loved it ha ha
Yep there was a price collapse in early 1986. Saudi Arabia flooded the world market. Remember filling up at an old "Merit" gas station on route 9 in Natick mass. Price bottomed at 66.9/gallon. Did not recover and go over a dollar a gallon for close to two years.
See "East Bend" on the fender. East Bend closed in 1981. Now for sale. http://smithermanrealty.com/printable-flyer/property/2279
You got that right, I was thinking the same thing, "street gas is cheap, wonder if race gas has gone down, NAAAAAH probably not"
Cool pics got to love that !! Oil is even cheaper the Friday close is at Ready for this.... A whopping $18.12 In mid March I posted it was 43.00$ dang gas should be 85 cents.
Alan—I started going to round track races regularly in the 50s. My grandfather provided the PA system in the press box at the local track. I started going to strip races in the early 60s. In the late 60s I had a 55 chevy with a Muncie 4 speed that I raced some at the track. It was not a dedicated track car, but it had a 4:10 rear gear set. I needed it for the street too. I was in college in the late 60s and early 70s so my time was occupied with first becoming an engineer and later an attorney. Without a doubt I have spent more time spectating at the strip. I did spend 35 years flying high performance airplanes mostly in the US, but some in The Bahamas, Canada, and Australia.
