Just *really* enjoying the winter doldrums
:boring: and making use of the time to do stuff I am NOT going to want to do come spring!
Gossip? Sgt. Schultz told me to say, "I know nussink, I hear nussink, I zee nussink!"

Dee, I'm pretty new to this computer thing and I don't have a digital camera yet so I'll have to get them scanned at my friends house. The engine has been totally detailed as far as painting goes with a chrome air cleaner lid with Buick350-4 decal on it,Accel HEI super coil,Yellow Accel spiral core plug wires, engine bay repainted and detailed, the grill is from a 72' custom(potmetal) repainted satin black (looks almost like a 70 GS grill). The interior is white with electric white leather buckets out of a Gulp...94 T-Bird, but looks like they belong there,Black carpet and a sport steering wheel with a black dash.Ok boys and girls ,it's time to use your imagination as Jeff doesn't have a digital camera YET... As soon as I get those scanned I'll post them.

I'm new to the internet thing too. I only have access at work and sure don't have a digital camera. I sneak around and scan pictures in every once in a while.

I'd like to see what T-Bird seats look like in there. What kind of seat rails did you put down to get them in there? I haven't found too many people with a real GS interior (buckets, console, etc.) already installed in their car.

I've got all the parts, except the shifter because it broke in the accident, ready to put in my Skylark. Suppose to be getting a shifter UPS today. Got the hood, air cleaner, which has a piece missing off the ram air because of the accident (hopefully foams will cover that), column with sport wheel and all the goodies including a brand new grill in the box. The interior matches the interior already in my Skylark. Think it's burnished saddle. I just call it brown. Still got the GS350 engine and trannie too.

It's just getting around to starting the job and getting the nerve up to pull my Skylark apart. There's nothing wrong with it now, but wouldn't it look wonderful as a GS? Also, $$$$. That's a concern.

Can't wait to see your pics.!!

Yeah that damn cash thing.Gets in the way of progress every time. The seats are not mounted on rails and were a pain in the butt to mount.I had to make my own mounts for them but they work and look great. The pattern looks so much better than the stock seat in the back.I'm thinking whenever I get the back seat recovered that I'll have it done to match the buckets.Working on your car is kind of like exercising:you hate to go do it but once your there you really enjoy yourself. Not that I work out much.My job gives me all the work out I can stand. If I was in your shoes(Texas)I'd be out there right now puttin' that hood on and installing that new grill.I got brave a couple of days ago and did some work on my car before the next round of crappy weather comes our way this weekend.By the way if you don't mind my asking, where did you come across a new grill and how much did you end up having to give for it?I only had to pay $15 for my 72' grill :Brow: Sometimes you get lucky! Isn't it fun playing on the net at work and getting paid for it?:Brow: Just don't get caught.:laugh:If you want to E-Mail me you can use my hotmail address:jeffbullock26@hotmail.com:Comp:

The reason why the hood isn't on is because of $$$. The tip needs to be straightened a little and of course painted. I got the grill from Year One about 15? years ago. Didn't cost much back then. I'm sure under $200. I toted that wrecked GS around for 15 years. Finally pulled off all the parts I could get off in a weekend and junked it. That was before I knew there were boards out there and people wanted this stuff. I've always had lots of Skylarks and seemed like a dime a dozen. You know you're getting old when something that seems new to you is old to someone else and is actually worth some $! I had a new frame with all new front end parts, close ratio steering gear box, power brake booster and other numberous things that make me sick that I left on the car. Even had a '71 grill, a door, trunk lid, Buick wheels, interior back side panels, etc. that I left on there. Paid someone to haul it all away!!:Dou: :Dou: :Dou: :Dou: :Dou: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: I'm really sick about it. Couldn't afford the storage costs and boyfriend kept nagging me to get rid of that junk. Again, :Dou: :spank: :Dou: :spank: I would have been really lucky and had $ in my pocket if I had listened to my heart.:stmad: :stmad: Sorry, venting...

I did do the plugs on my Z28 Tuesday night since it was above freezing. Now it's cold and rainy outside.

You should have gotten rid of the boy friend and kept the Skylark parts(not junk)As you can tell I have a big spot in my heart for Skylarks.I'm on my 2nd one now and hopefully one of these days I can find another one to add to my collection but I still have some body work and paint work to do on this one first. My first one was a 72' post that I got when I traded an Olds 455 straight across for it.That was a good motor but I enjoyed the Skylark a lot more. That's the one I cut my Buick teeth on and I've been addicted ever since.:puzzled: I don't know what it is about them but I never get tired of looking at it or bored with driving it like some of the other cars I've had:TU:

It will be our 10 year anniversary this year. I just started getting back into my cars recently and don't think he's too thrilled about it. He doesn't like to work on cars. A lot of times I don't like to work on them either but like to see the end result. He should have known about my car passion because I use to take he and his best friend to the street races in my Z28 back 19 years ago!!! (oooppps, shows my age) When we first started going out, he'd come over and I'd be changing wheel bearings or something on my Skylark. Anyway, knew something was missing recently and realized it was my cars. I feel better about the world now that they're back in my life:grin: and hopefully he'll put up with it. I didn't spend 10 years of my life with him for not. Thank goodness my cars waited on me!!! Sorry, rambling again!:eek2:

I've probably had 10 Skylarks in my life. The first one was one of my favorites because it would scream. A friend had built the engine in auto shop in high school and hopefully made an A on it. Bought the car off him. The others all came after the GS (my favorite) was wrecked by the drunk kid. Picked them up here and there, driving them for a while, taking off the best parts and replacing them with others, and then selling them. Then the Convertible came along and kept it. I got it and the wrecked GS and new frame in the divorce. The ex got the T-Type. Now that was a hard decision to make between the two!!!

I've got the Buick addiction. Recently got in with a good group of people here in North Texas. The Lone Star Buick Performance Group. www.lspbc.org. Check out their site. If you look in the image bank for the Feb. 8th meeting, you'll see my lone Skylark sitting by itself in the 2nd? pic. Seeing the GN's and T-Buicks, GS's and GSX's will make any addict jones for more!!!

I've got one of those spouses also. She doesn't quite understand my Buick addiction either but tolerates it(to a point). What she doesn't understand is how few and far between our cars are getting and that the aftermarket just doesn't help by not producing more parts for our cars, which drives the prices up for the vendors that do make parts for us.We've been married for 12 and a half years and my cars have almost caused a divorce a couple of times. But I tell you what, when she gets behind the wheel she has more of a lead foot than I do when it comes to ricers and mustangs. But the nice thing is when I need to get away and blow off some steam, all is forgotten when I crank the Buick over and listen to the sweet thumpity-thump of the TA cam.Ahhh, sweet music indeed.  It's a shame we can't find out all the likes and dislikes of people before we marry them.Imagine how many happy Buick couples there could be. Eeek!I just realized I've been hanging out in the ladies room.I guess I'll just say it was my softer side coming out.   Jeff B.

I knew I could pull some good stuff out of this topic!!! Even if it isn't from a female. Got the man's softer side out! :Brow: Sometimes Buick couples might not be a good thing. You can get into fights over whose car you will be working on that weekend!! My Skylark doesn't have the cam. It has the relaxing style of ride. My Z28 is the one with the big cam that gets my heart pumping. Had it 20 years this year and it still gives me a thrill. So does the Skylark, 15 years this year. The SC has that wonderful Super Charger sound with that "tuck your tail and run like a Cheetah thing". Closest thing I've come to since my T-Buick. My new WS6 is beautiful and gets me a lot of looks but I'm too scared to get on to see what it will do until it's paid off!!! The cars seem to stay around longer than the men do!!! Let's rephrase that; I seem to keep the cars around longer than I do the men!!! I have a car for every occassion. Sorry they're not all Buicks, but I'm not prejudice! Don't personally like Ricers though. To each his own...:TU: :beer Buicks are in my heart.:)

I've had other cars also, like a 76' Camaro(dog)76'olds cutlass 455(ass hauler)72' Skylarkand I have my mom to thank for getting me into musclecars.I learned to drive in a 68'RS Conv w/327 Muncie m-22,Hurst shifter. She made the mistake of taking me on a gravel road in the country and we got sideways the first time I let the clutch out.We also have had 76' Pontiac Blue Bird(not too many people remember those)80' 280zx,65' Riviera, and a couple of those funky wedge shaped electric cars that were around back in the late 70's,early 80's.My step father was a GM dealer for many years when I was younger.Women come and go just like cars do but it seems the memory of the cars never leaves. :puzzled: And yes you should be very proud of yourself as not too many women are able to bring out my "softer side" Or maybe it's the fact we have something in common with the Skylarks:TU: I'll hollar at ya later. I got into cars because my Dad asked if I'd like to trade my '76 LeSabre for a '79 Z28 when I was in high school. I worked hard to buy that first car (LeSabre) and really didn't want to give it up. I guess the Z28 looked pretty good after he took the dorky looking magnetic CB antenna off the top, so I said ok. My Dad didn't really do much for me as a kid, so I guess the Z is pretty special and that's why I've kept it. I had to get into cars because I couldn't afford to take it into the shop for repairs. So guess what? I had to fix it. My cars come and never go. I always get what I like and don't want to give them up. Had the SC sold a few years ago, but couldn't do it.:ball: Too bad you're married. Don't take that wrong now. I love my boyfriend but it sure would be nice if he had the love for at least cars in general. He drove my Skylark one block when we were first going out (10 yrs ago), and thought it was terrible!!!! Should I have gotten the hint then? :Dou: I tend to cry when I loose a car, but not as much when I loose a husband/boyfriend. :puzzled: Figure that!!???:eek2: Keep in touch!!!!

Cheer up Dee it sounds like you and I are in the same boat and unfortunately so are our spouses:grin: I love my Buick because it is a release for me from the everyday life that is my marriage.Don't get me wrong,I'm not miserable but I know I could be happier.I think the reason I got into cars was because my folks were divorced when I was about 6 or 7 and I never really got to do the father/son car thing and wanted to prove to him and myself that I could surpass his knowledge of cars and HE was a mechanic when I was a little kid.Now he works as a salesman for Hamm&Phillips oil production co. and even for the few years I lived close to him in Oklahoma we never really "clicked ".He was always seen by me as more of a friend than a father and to this day he has called me maybe twice since I moved up here to Iowa.ASSH&%$!!!Sorry, just had to vent that out.May be this is something we should cuss & discuss by PM or e-mail?
