I finally got the pictures uploaded from the day that me and my buddy found out that my car is a rolling hunk of rust and scrap metal. In the one picture you can see the piece of popsicle box they used to give the bottom of the front fenders some structure so they would have something to slather the bondo and fiberglass too. in the picture with my buddy, what he's holding up is my rocker basically, a massive chunk of bondo and fiberglass. So ****ty deal, I knew it was ****ty but I thought I might need to replace the quarters, until we discovered that there would be nothing to weld the quarters too. You can see how the wheel wells are rusted out both on the quarter side and the seam where they attach to the trunk, my question is, whats holding them from falling right out?? Well theres some bondo, and seam sealer, clever bastards. Brutilating such a classic buick..

I've been looking for awhile but all i've been able to find are cars for 7000-8000 that were way to nice, but I guess I just have to keep working and try and save for a really nice one, I don't want to take my chances anymore, after getting a really raw deal for 2500, i'm not even sure if it would be smart to try and look for one for under 5 grand. I should probably man up, keep saving and save like 10k and buy a nice one in 3 or 4 years, but ahg, 3 or 4 years.. I want to build my 455 NOW:p I wish there was something productive I could do, but there just isn't right now, I want to work on it, but other than pulling it apart more theres nothing to really do without the new body. I don't want to save up and build the engine when i don't have a car to put it in.

buy a cheap mig welder, fix it up and dump it. It would be good practice, it doesn't look like you could do more damage.

My dad just bought a welder with the intentions of using my car as a gunea pig for his zero experience welding practice, he says, oh it'll be easy, he thinks he can just 'patch it all up, and put quarters on, blah blah blah, my buddys dad who's an old school body man just laughed and said don't let him touch it, you'll have crooked quarters with warped edges, and generally a big mess. I need to win the lottery. My buddy wants to take the body off my hands, put it on a bronco frame and make a 4x4... I keep telling them that the buick community would disown me, lol.

Your buddy's dad is right. Hanging new quarters, especially the repro ones that seam on the side, is not a job for an inexperienced bodyman/welder.

What harm could it do? If the car is beyond making it back to the street at least it could be cool in the mud!

Might want to shoot the guy an offer on the 68 custom body. Who knows, you might get lucky? Then again, I've not seen the other body and it may be as bad as yours. :Do No:

Most of us that buy old cars need to win the lottery......believe me I sure do. I told hubby I feel like Johnny Cashs song, "One Piece At A Time" only we gotta pay for all the pieces on a little bit of money......:ball: Come on lottery, come to momma :)

ya it;s not the cheapest hobby, I have about 6-7 grand into this rusty pos over the past 2 years, on repairs, wiring, new carb, smallblock headers, dumb idea... ta intake, exhaust system which i butchered to make a cheap one for a buddys car, so thats now worthless, tach, pro billet distributor and ignition system, 600 dollar set of bfg's, the back ones are fried because im brakestand happy, various hoses, small crap, ta valve covers, arp intake bolts, paint, jb weld, the list goes on, and I have 0 to show for it, definately should have saved all that, I could be car shopping with something like 8 grand right now...:af::af::mad:what I ended up with was a really gutless 350 [pouring oil out the rear main, leaky trans, 0-60 in ten seconds with a launch that my 4 cylinder 88 ranger could beat... dont even get me started on how much i've spent on oil and gas..\

    end rant, sorry,..

well on a 72 that i bought the quarters were duct taped then they put bondo over the top of that then painted it same with the front fenders. it was a good thing that i payed next to nothing for it and bought it as a parts car.

It sucks to get your ass burnt, I've been on the receiving end more than once myself. Sorry about your car, I know how it is to be broke and someone takes advantage of you.......Hope you win the lottery along with me!!:beer

Well.....at least your keeping a sense of humor. Jay Leno once said, you know how to be a millionaire in the car hobby?......start out as a billionaire.

Its also easy to say you coulda saved 7-8 grand instead of working on the car, but nobody does that! I think we've all said that at one point.

Theres a clean one out there with your name on it, you just haven't stumbled on it yet.

Ok, you'll hate me, but that doesn't look that bad. My Convertible was my first welding project, and I did my own quarters. My trunk looked worse than that, and I had to build my own inner fenders for the rear quarters. No repros were being made at the time. The key is to remove the pieces (or whats left) as straight as possible, and then lay them over the new pieces and cut them to fit. Just get a good Lincoln Mig welder with the Argon attachment. If you go buy another body, you will most likely find it needs rust work too when you go to swap it. All the parts you have shown in the pics are available. The frame looked very nice. It sucks, but just bite the bullet and decide to just cut it apart and fix it. Otherwise start saving for a new car that doesn't need so much. My .02 worth..
