Why cant younger people accept that they made a mistake or accept criticisms anymore. I know im only 20 soon to be 21... but i have always taken responsibility for my actions. I have always accepted criticism. Never got mad at any of my bosses for it and i never will. Why is it i see at jobs people a few years older than me (like 23-25) and younger than me get mad at everyone because they think they are right about everything when they arent. And then cry when they are told they messed up or they get mad and try to pin the blame on someone else. I have never been that way, ive always been taught to respect my bosses and my elders, and that i wont always be right. There will always be people who know more than me. i understand and am okay with that because i want to learn all i can. I just dont understand how people have become this way? I cant wrap my head around it

People learn from their parents, leaders, and other role models. Think about that, take a good honest, objective look around you, and evaluate what is going on in this country and around the world, and you'll have your answer.

I think it's all because of participation trophies.
You were the only team in the league that didn't win any games, in fact, you were terrible! You don't even grasp the basics of the game!
    But here's your trophy!!

Without failure and then striving to perfect something there is no desire to excel.

    Just my $.02

Well said. The incentive to do better has been taken away. As new employees they want to start at the wage of those with experience. People can't deal with things that don't go their way, and when it doesn't they need their "safe spaces", "coloring books" and "emotional" support animals. I sometimes think we are doomed, then I look at all the people who are serving in our military and what they deal with, and I have hope.

Sounds like a cry out for attention and approval mixed with faux humility/modesty. Sad really.

What you describe is not a young person thing IMO. There are people like this all across the age spectrum. Just part of life.

As to some of the replies here, I have just this to say: OK boomer.

Agreed with it not just being a young person's issue. I've got about twenty "adults" I'm responsible for at work, and you could catch some of them in their 30s and 40s red handed doing something wrong and they'd deny it was them until you get so frustrated you just give up because it isn't worth the fight. And that's with them knowing I saw them do it.

I'll admit I don't know everything, but I don't need to, my wife already knows everything.

I've only been wrong once in my life. I thought I made a mistake, but really I didn't.

Some people just can't grasp the concept that the world does not revolve around them!

Very generally speaking, people have lost the ability to cope. Participation trophies, helicopter parents that over-defend their children to all ends, anti-bacterial everything... and lawyers willing to sue even if you're wrong or only had your feelings hurt.

Received an invite from Amazon for free grocery delivery the other day - first test order came today (some prices better than the local supermarket). Written all over the bags AND a text message reminding us to "Chill any perishables upon delivery." This really had to be said? But, you just know people didn't put the milk away and then blamed Amazon / the delivery people / anyone else for their warm milk after it arrived cold.

And no, it's not just "young" people..." it's self-righteous and/or entitled ones of all ages :)

I read that article, and it was very well written. You guys are right, ive just not seen it or been around it all around the spectrum of ages. Which is probably why I talked about it in a young person issue. It is just a part of life agreed, and i cant thank you guys enough. The replies have given me a few different views on this subject. In your guys opinion, do you think this will eventually change for the better or do you think that this will get worse?

Sad, but I think we are going down the Rabbit hole. Very good friend has a 30 something living at home. He would love to kick him out but Mommy defends him. He lives at home, pays nothing, Mommy does his laundry, makes his bed and he just complains how he has been screwed by his parents. I stay out of it as I don;t want to lose a good friend.
Me, a couple of years ago my grown son diddled after his job went away. I would not coddle him, and he ended up living in his car until he saw the light. Still works a low level job, but he now pays his bills and make ends meet. While it is not what I had hoped for him, he is independent. Thank you Lord.

The breakdown of the American family. Parents get divorced and feel guilty how they screwed over the kids and try to make it right by giving them everything except for what they need which is structure and stability in their lives. Schools don't teach things as fundamental as "Don't point a firearm at law enforcement" Seriously this was taught in my 8th grade classroom. I hear math is becoming optional in some states. OPTIONAL?

I can’t fix the whole country, but I and my wife are raising a son and daughter to be independent, polite, responsible kids. I and my 12 year old son both are pissed off that his school didn’t mention Veterans Day nor the anniversary of the Berlin Wall’s fall this week. Both kids assisted my son’s Scout troop put flags on the graves of veterans Saturday and are being taught by us why the USA and her constitution are worth defending. It’s a damned shame that we as parents have to worry about them not learning values from our own educational system. I expect drivel from the media, but I can’t accept how much crap is being shoveled by the schools now- especially colleges. Maybe if college loans were harder to get the students would be more concerned with getting their money’s worth. I want my children to get degrees but a lot of what I read about ‘higher education’ makes me question its value. I hope this self centered, indentity politics/safe space/socialism is the future trend passes. But we’ll see. Those of us who value hard work, independence, free economies and capitalism need to spread the knowledge. Lord knows it’s not being taught.
