Why won't my engine fit properly?

    Jus' kiddin'...

My real question is this: Every picture of a painted engine I've seen shows the water pump and the fuel pump to be painted too. I know it came from the factory that way. Has anyone left the accessories the aluminum color they come? I think it *might* look good, especially with a stainless bolt kit. :Do No: Obviously I will use all new parts... that valve cover has it's first test coat to see how it looks :TU:

    Opinions and / or pictures?

    Thanks, Frank Brooks

Its sorta a personal preference thing, I agree that leaving the water pump unpainted can look good, but I painted mine, mostly because I had just gotten some Buick red engine paint and wanted to try it out. However I left my fuel pump bare because I've never seen one that was painted and I think it looks better leaving it in its natural finish

Personally, If I were to leave it "Naked"... I'd take a dremel with those cotton (or whatever they are) polishing tips... Some aluminum polish(mothers worked good for me) and try to make it shine....Then match it with some billet pulleys... etc.

I did it with some clear coated wheels once... it was alot of work, but shined real nice.

Correct would be painted water pump, un-painted fuel pump. Personally, I think an unpainted water pump looks like you just changed it and were too lazy to paint it. JMHO

I painted my water pump and left my fuel pump as it came out of the box. I think it looks great. JMHO

Oh yeah! - Well I left it bare nekkid on purpose! Yes - I leave mine nekkid and shined up to show the world how ingenious it was of Buick to use so much aluminum. Fuel pump also left nekkid. I like the look of mixed materials. Too often I've seen engines and compartments totally shot with rattle cans because the owner WAS lazy and couldn't/wouldn't take the time to properly detail.

All that being said though, as Nicholas indicates, "correct" is painted. Hey, Buick didn't want that stuff corroding!

Or, like you said, they were too lazy to mask it when they painted the rest of the engine.

I left my water pump and fuel pump bare. I think that looks good. If anything I'd paint the water pump but not the fuel pump. The stainless bolt kit would look good either way! :TU:
