IMO that's the best color for a '64 'cat, but then I may be a little biased. Mine has a saddle interior and beige top. Sorry to hear about your setback. Yours will likely be the best '64 Wildcat in existence. Too bad we are at opposite ends of NC.
Sorry to hear this Matt. By the way did the restorer ever get the clutch problem fixed??? I know we talked about it a couple times & I gave him my suggestions. Tom T.
I believe so Tom but admittedly the vehicle went from his shop to another. I will need to evaluate when it is complete. Your help there though was much appreciated.
Been following this thread with interest. Sorry to read about the recent setbacks; - hope you get them worked out, and I hope you don't grow to hate the car because of all the issues which take so much time and effort to rectify. Good luck; I hope we'll see an absolutely stunning finished product later this year.
Alight well we're getting real close now. Probably 4-5 weeks off judging how things go with my paint man. This is following 100% new body work, stripped down to bare metal (for the 2nd time), and using all PPG branded products. As you see it there are 12 coats of Diplomat Blue, it's been wet sanded, and awaits 2-3 more final coats. Last steps are the clear, finishing polish, and re-installing all of the chrome work. You'd be surprised at how translucent the Diplomat Blue is. To match the factory color card it takes many, many, coats.
Looking good! I have been watching for a while and am looking forward to seeing your car finished soon. I'll bet you are too, especially after all that you went through.
Thanks Lee and Jim. I'm super excited. Oh man... what an odyssey this has been. Jim, It's with a small shop up in Virginia. Real methodical operator, body, and paint guy that won't be rushed, makes no compromises, and does high-end only work. Happy to discuss on PM. Thanks, Matt-
Ok... the hood has been fitted and now all fenders, doors, and panels are ready for final 2 coats and then clear. That may be this weekend. If not then next week. So it's getting there!
The polishing process just started on driver's door and portion of driver's rear fender... Photo with camera flash on (shows the brightness of the blue in the light): Here are two photos of the door and rear without flash (shows how dark Diplomat Blue is in lower light conditions):
Dumb question; is the car painted in nitrocellulose lacquer? It sure looks that way, that paint is really nice and deep. It's looking really good!
Marc the paint and clearcoat is PPG. The paint being Urethane. It's PPG name is Daytona Blue which is the same as Buick Diplomat Blue.
