Will not start parked on a hill?

Has anyone had the problem of your car not starting on a hill or incline? I’ve had this problem twice now. The car starts and runs great. Then I park it on a incline and it cranks and will not start. Like it’s starving for gas? Any thoughts?

How soon are you trying to start it after parking on a hill? Could be a few things.

It was sitting for about an hour in the driveway.
It is a 350 2 barrel by the way.

See if it does the same on a flat parking area. If so, you may have leaking well plugs in the carb causing a "flooding" type situation. If it starts right up, you may have a bad or sticking float or it may just need to be adjusted. These are just the first things that come to mind.

Agreed. Shoot from the hip diagnosis, probably float height.

Parked on a hill facing uphill or downhill?

If downhill, a weak float setting can flood the carb. If uphill, the float can get stuck if the level is set too low.

It was facing upward. It had about a 1/4 of a tank according to the gauge which could be off a little. I did go get about 2 more gallons of gas in a gas can and tried that. Still didn’t work.

I think the float theory sounds right. Because she started fine yesterday on the flat surface in the garage.

Jack the front end up in the driveway and see what happens.

Check the carb float level & change it out if necessary. Over time, the nitrophyl in the float can get saturated and sink. I normally set mine about 3/16" from the top edge.

Exactly! If you have to park going uphill, pump your air shocks way up:D
