Will the axle from a 1970 8.25 rear end work with a 1971 rear end with 8.50..? ... Both look identical , length and width etc... only the bearings look different... Can I put the correct bearing on the 8.50 axle and use it with the 8.25 rear end... ( I switched the rear end because I wanted the highway gears that were in the 1970 8.25 differential.... CAN I USE THE AXLE ?.....

Spline is slightly different...YOU are speaking of the axle shafts?
You can fit the 8.25 in the 8.5 but the 8.5 will not fit the 30 degree pitch slip in the 8.25.
IF you are aslking about the complete axle assemble housing etc WHOLE REAR... you rwill need to do driveshaft mods as the 8.5 pinion snout is longer than the 8.25 pinion snout area.

I don't mean to question, but yesterday I put the axle in to the rear end and it fit right in the only thing that was different was the bearing... but the actual actual slid right into the differential and appeared to be correct other than the bearing which is sealed on the 8.25.... are you sure the 8.5 will not work? Because like I say it slid right in and appear to be correct except for the bearing

Dont do it, the sines are not perfect matches..............even when they slide in there is slop in them.

    sines? ?? :D
Just told him that. Pitches are different.
If your looking just just drive it ...they will be fine
IF your drag racing and hitting the heck out of the axles... Probably not a great idea.
ALL depends on what and why he needs to do it.

IF the bearing is DIFFERENT...then it WILL NOT WORK!

You can not just change bearings The bearing offsets are different from a Oiled bearing to a sealed bearing. One has the seal in the axle shaft the other the seal is in the housing tube end.

Understood and Thank you Gentleman... which means it's time to go see Bruno and get the right axle

Went to see Bruno...HE KNOWS !.... Got the right axle , put it in the car in his driveway , drove it home ! ... Tomorrow , I put two new bearings on the two axles and the project is complete ! ( And then I start rebuilding the original rear end from the car . )
