Has anybody fit a 28x11.5x15 slick on the back of a stock 70-72 Skylark/GS?? I found a killer price on some new ET streets, just curious if anybody else has fit that size. I know 275-60-15's fit and thats close, but not sure...

Our 72 had 12.5 x 28's on it until last week. On an 8" wide ralley wheel. Had to roll the lip a little. Seems like it had more room than the 70. Tyler notched the frame on it to get a 10.5 slick under it. It has a 12" section width.

I definitely dont want to notch the frame. Id roll the lip if i had to. These tires are just going to be for occasional use, so I dont want to have to make any major permanent modifications. But if they'll fit with a slight lip roll, I could handle that.

Are those the 28x12.5's on the red GSX in the picture??

Yes, the picture below has them. I'll try to find another. The red car is not notched, just a little fender lip roll. Another old picture.

Phil Sedlon (70 gsconvt) fit 325/50R-15 Drag Radials on his 70. They are nearly 12.5" wide in section width. The key is to use a 10" wide wheel with the proper back spacing, 5.5-5.625".

Thanks for the replys fellas, that was what I was hoping to hear! A guy near me is sellin an almost new (very very little wear) set for $200 and I wanted to snatch them up. My car wont see regular strip action, but for $200 I thought it'd be worth having them for the occasional strip visit (or a rowdy friday night:Brow: ). Now if I can just get the guy to return my emails...

    Mark,
I love how that tire fits in the wheel well on the red GSX! Are those 8" rallys? What are the backspacing on those wheels?

    Larry,
Thanks for the heads up. I'll probably wait till a good set of draglites pops up on CL around me so thanks for the info on the backspacing!

Yes, 8" ralleys. I can't remember if the backspace was 4 or 4.5" on them.

Okay guys, so here's a little update. I went dead set on buying the 28x11.5's the guy had. BUUUTTT after seeing them in person they looked way more narrow than I expected. Sooo the fella also had a set of 28x12.5's for sale for only $175. After seeing them on your car Mark and Larry's info on the backspacing I went with the 12.5's instead. Cant wait to see them on the car with a perrrrty set of draglites or prostars!! Just gotta get the body and the frame mated first....and put the rest of the car together.... whoa.....jeez, geuss its gonna be a while:(... But on the bright side I got some sweet DOT slicks cheap!!!:beer

Now for my next question! TO TUBE OR NOT TO TUBE(and screw)???? That is the question!!!! (sorry for the long and overly excited respoinse, I've had a few beverages...):beer
