Got alot of fine scratches on the outside of my windshield. Can they be removed and if so how?

Ahhhh, secret....accidently drop a hammer on the windshield and get a new one thru da insurance company.

If it is original and has "sparkles" (many many tiny pits/scratches), much better off installing a new one for $100-110. Safelite sells them for that amount and you can get 3/8" butyl tape from Autozone for $10-11

I've always heard that Jeweler's Rouge will remove small scratches. You should be able to pick some up at the local hardware store.

I went to high school with a kid whose dad owned an auto body shop. He said for minor stuff, simple gritty toothpaste works. I haven't tried and tested, but it supposedly works.

It ain't easy!! Because of the curves of the glass, if you polish one area a
bit more than the other you will change the surface tension of the glass and it will be more prone to cracking. Also because af the curve if one
part is polished more than the other you will have a distorted vision looking through it. Just my .01c ....

Compare the cost of the kit, your time and labor vs a new windshield for $100-110....not worht messing with an old windshield since it will never be like a new one anyways.

The difference is amazing when you put a new piece of glass in. You dont realize how pitted the old one was.

    I looked on safelite's website
    Web-Only Price: $280.95

    WOW!

If they sell the windshield alone seems like there's alot of labor built in that price. And thats + tax and disposal.

The front glass is laminated so it does not polish well. All the others including the rear are tempered and should polish up nicer. If you can catch a scratch with finger nail it needs to be polished out. For spotted glass try 0000 Steel wool. Cleans real well.

I buy replacement windshields.....I believe they are PPG and Safelite charges $100-120......I pick it up and install it myself. If you want the old one removed and the new one installed price can be doubled or more.

George do they have the antenna within the glass?

I've been in your situation before. Thought I could fix the old glass. A buddy talked me into getting new glass and I was so happy I made the choice to do so. Old glass is really not worth the agg, IMHO.

Anyone know where I can get the trim for around the front winshield. Just in case the old set gets bent during removal.
