I need to repair my windshield channel for my 72 GS. I have access to a donor car, 68. Are the openings exactly the same for all years?

    Thanks.

I'm not 100% sure of that, but I do know that convertible and hardtops used different windshields, so if one car or the other is a convertible but the other one's not, you'll have some potential problems

For '72 there were 3 different windshields, each available tinted or clear.
    27 & 37 cars one style, 35,36,39 & 69 cars one style, 67 cars ( ragtop) one style.

So is it the post cars that have the different one in '72?

I know how to decode the VIN :)

I'm asking you about the three different windshield types. I know one's hardtop, one's convertible, what's the third type? Is it a different windsheild on the post cars?

I just spoke to my glass man and asked him about this, he's showing that all the 2 door coupe cars 68-72 use the same "size" glass but they show different part numbers for tint and antenna so from what he's telling me, the opening is the same size. Since you have to remove the windshield from one of the cars (yours or the donor)....lay the glass in from one car into the other to see if it fits to be safe.

    Scott,
For 68-72 A-bodies there were 3 different windshield sizes
    2-door coupe/post model
    4-door/wagon
    convertible

    Hope this helps.

    Scott,
Before you do anything, if you have comprehensive insurance, check with your agent. I think most states have a law that cracked or broken windshields must be replaced not repaired.

Since you mentioned a 68 model, I would advise against it. You are going to use a 36 yr old piece of glass. I would suggest a new one for $165-175 from SafeLite 1-800-800-ASAP. I never realized the difference until some rock truck lost a load and cracked my windshield. Did not notice the new windshield until night driving. The view was crystal clear. The old glass would have "sparkles" or light diffraction which caused distorted viewing. :TU:

    Thanks for the help, all.

    George,

I am not reusing the windshield, just need to repair rusted out channel.

Thanks Duane! I figured the channel itself would be the same except for the 'verts.

Everyone else, I appreciate the info.

    Scott
