    Hi Everyone!

Just got back from a swing thru some western MN junkyards and have some interesting news. About three years ago, Windy Hills started to crush out and had reduced their inventory by about 80%. ( Sad thing is they crushed before the scrap steel prices went sky high!) At one time they had advertised over 5000 cars and trucks. We stopped by on Saturday and found they had started to add more cars! There is a very unmolested 65 Wildcat 2 door with the standard interior, a very picked over 65 Wildcat convert, a 64 LeSabre 4 door in very complete condition and a rather picked over boattail. There are 50's and 60's cars starting to reappear there and some have South Dakota plates. I just thought that if someone is investing in bringing these cars in, we should make sure to patronize the yard!

yeah i stopped going there about three years ago because it was so empty. wasent worth the two hour drive anymore. so i started to go back to french lake, which has alot of skylarks(last time i was there, which was last summer). maybe ill try windy hills again. like it cause you can drive through the yard. did you see any 70-72's?

First time I went to Windy Hills about 15 years ago, I thought I was in heaven. Spent the entire day rooting around. Was amazed at some of the very old stuff there. (Old Packard woody wagon for example)
And came home with a booty of parts!
Last time I went up there a few years ago to get a piece of glass for my Riv, I was really bummed at the number of cars that were gone. Plus, the weeds were so thick you could hardly see, or get at some cars.
I figured the place was pretty much history. :(

windy hills is in new london mn (about a 2 hour drive for mnpls) and french lake is in annandale(about a hour from mnpls) both are off of highway 55 going west. french lake has some big cars, they actually have a section set aside for the demo guys :spank: but ive seen big cars in other parts of the yard also. windy hills used to have big cars but i havent been up there in three years :Do No: id call them both and ask what they have laying around, but it is just fun to wonder around and look at the old iron too

Thanks Rick...I guess I knew that, but just had a brain fart. Now that winter has finally settled in Minnesota, I think I'll wait until it warms up, then head west. I'm always looking for stuff for my Lesabre and don't have alot of time to run all over the midwest. I've pretty much taken care of a yard in Montana, but I keep checking just incase something comes in. Nice rust free parts from there.

    MN Salvage yards...

I am from Southern MN and am wondering about makin the trip up to see these yards. For those of you who have been there, would you let me know if it is worth the drive to go up? I am not only looking for buick parts but for other makes as well. Thanks for the input as always, Andrew Ebling

    Southern Minnesota yards

    Andrew,
There are a couple of yards in South eastern Minnesota that you may or maynot know about. Bridleys, just south of Glenville on U.S. 65, has a good selection of 60's and 70's cars and the most 1958 Buicks that I have ever seen in one place, including Limited's! There is another yard in Austin that is about a mile due north of the Hormel plant. I think it was named Carney's, but I don't remember for sure. I would just Google it! Quite a selection of 50's through 70's cars. Don't wait to check these yards out, myself and a couple of buddies have been chasing down yards in Minnesota and western Wisconsin for a couple of years and are usually just ahead or behind the crusher!
