Thank everyone in advance for visiting this post and any knowledge you can share on the subject. I have a 72 skylark 350 project car I've been working on for awhile now, but I've stumbled across a problem that I just can't seem to fix. This is that my windshield wiper motor will not completely shut off when turned to the off position by the wiper switch inside the dash. When turned on, both speeds of the wipers operate normally without any problems. But when I try to turn them off, they return towards the bottom of the windshield, but continue to move up and down a few inches and you can hear the wiper motor still running. They stop when key is turned to off position, but anytime key is turned on position, motor kicks on and wipers again move just a few inches up and down. Solutions I've tried so far: checked ground wire running to wiper switch inside dash. Still no luck after trying that. Two, inspected wiper motor for "ground strap" at one of the mounting bolts. I did NOT see this supposed ground strap on the motor, however tried to ground the motor with jumper wire at multiple locations, no results after trying that. Odd thing is when the wipers are moving when switch is turned off, if I get out of the car and press the wipers down towards the hood a bit, BAM the wipers park and motor turns off like everything is fine. This method stops the wipers 100% of the time. Problem returns whenever wipers are turned back on then off. LASTLY i notice the wiper motor operates AND parks properly when i remove the arm linkage that fits over that ball on the rotating peice thru the firewwall, problem returns when linkage is reconnected. This makes me think wiper switch is okay. Sorry for such a long post but can somebody please try to shed some light here for me? Any suggestions or knowledge is greatly appreciated. As well as any testing methods! Thanks you guys are the best!

Get a new wiper motor. It sound like your motor is not parking properly. Did you switch from non-depressed to depressed park? Did it always do this or is it new problem?

I agree. The parking mechanism has failed. i had the same problem several years ago. purchased a new wiper motor assembly. problem solved.

As you are new to this forum, it can be excused that you do not know that old Buicks cannot be driven in the rain.

    JUST KIDDING!

Post in parts wanted and you will get a good wiper motor!

My '73 Olds 88 and my '66 Biscayne had the same symptoms. As the previous posters have said; new wiper motors fixed the problem on each car..
    Good luck to you!

rebuilt wiper motor does not mean that the parking module has been replaced. Back in 2001, I returned two "rebuilt" wiper motors because the parking mechanism failed in both units.
