Not sure if you can make that correlation to your Mom’s cancer. Did she smoke?

Sure .....and drank. Liked her bacon burnt as well....Not saying burnt meat was cause ....who knows for sure....but it can't be a good thing....the more you heat things the more likely they will form carcinogens...so why not avoid?

Actually Googled "Borax as a food additive", and apparently at some point the FDA had to ban it as a food additive. That leads me to believe that it was being added to some food.:D

Smoking has been linked to so many cancers. Far more likely the cause than any food source. My Mother and now just last year my Mother in law both died from lung cancer even though they had quit years before.

Here you go. Wife always has some. I can’t see anyone eating this stuff and lasting too long.

Dave, I'm not talking about large quantities here:D, I'm talking about trace amounts. If the FDA had to ban it, it means someone was using it as a food additive, for whatever reason.

They said they added it to meat about to spoil so it looked fresh, I know it sounds weird:eek:

I hear you Larry. Boggles my mind that someone would do that? But in The DR and Costa Rica they are still killing people with anti freeze loaded booze.

I remember a story years ago (undercover thing) where grocery stores were washing meat and fish with bleach and repackaging it with new dates. So Borax doesn’t surprise me.

My grandma was a nurse and she died of lung cancer and never smoked. I never figured that one out. And I have a great uncle that's 85 who smokes everyday and it one strong dude. Still rides his horse everyday and runs the wealthiest farms in his area.

There is far far worse than red meat that will kill ya. That's the least of the issues. Sugar is the #1 killer...in it's various open and hidden forms. Diabetes is now the #1 killer in western society. Sugar and processed foods are the cause. I'd have a steak or ground beef meal every day over sugary processed foods. This coming from someone who never drank or smoked, but from age 18 to 45 I drank 2-3 litres of Coca Cola a day, every day. 2 years ago I stopped cold turkey and have pretty much removed all processed foods and processed sugar from my diet, and also most carbs.

Soy and corn fields are sprayed with Roundup to kill the soy before harvest so that will get you with cancer.

Be a vegetarian all that food is sprayed too so take your pic on which way you want to die this or red meat

Hormones in the food that does not do anything to you but make you fat so pic your poison it is all bad.

Go organic and grass fed beef and poultry is better for you.

For sure sugar is another to avoid. When we travel to other countries, it is easy to recognize fellow Americans due to their waistlines.

Lifestyle and genetics play a role here too. It explains why some people do all the wrong things but still live to a ripe old age. Smoking is by far one of the worst things you can do to yourself. It affects virtually every organ system. Lung cancer is just one consequence of smoking, it’s not the only one by far. Lung cancer can also come from radon gas exposure, so environment is another factor. Sugar is another problem, but the main consequence of that is obesity which can also lead to diabetes, another big risk factor for early death. Your body runs on glucose, so you need it, but better to get it from fruits and vegetables. I have been known to enjoy a good steak every so often, moderation is the key. Exercise is really important as well, never stop moving.
