As most of you know,I traded my F.A.S.T Vette for a 68 Mustang Pure Stocker.I'm really exited to see what this car is capable of in Pure Stock trim.I'll be racing at Martin and Stanton next year for sure.My problem is,I just ordered 4 new wide ovals last week,(F-70-14)but now I'm thinking the Stang should of came with Polyglas?Which one is correct for the car?I know either is legal for Pure Stock racing, but which is actually "correct"?I'm new to the Ford camp and want to avoid being burned at the stake for having the wrong repop tires!

I've got 2 Ford books, one says FE stands for Fairlane Engine, the other says Ford Edsel.Which is right? :Do No: I agree with you,FE engine parts ARE hi buck! But Mustang parts are dime a dozen! :TU: Exept maybe the starter delay thingy, $1400.

Thanks! Not sure yet on the smoke issue,I'll probably pull the engine this winter and take a look inside.Hopefully its nothing very serious.I dont really know what these cars ran when new,I assume around 13.0.Thats the best the car has run,(while Bill owned it).Maybe with a little super tuning it will be a close race for a certain 69 GTO from Canada!

$1400.......$1100.........Don't make me talk about the MEL fuel pump asm. :Dou:

I know what you mean Wayne, I have four publications that list the 427 bore at 4.23, 4.232, 4.233 and 4.234.

The factory manual said 4.233, but when I would tell folks I went .017" over I got tired of hearing "well why didn't you just go .020" over to a 4.250"?"

So now I just say it has a 4.250 bore.

    Wayne,

Congrats on the new Musclecar! I heard you were at Rock Falls this summer! I normally go out there quite a bit but this year we just had to much going on and I only made it out there a couple weekends this whole summer. (Would have loved to seen the vette!)

Any plans at visiting the Rock with your new toy next summer?

    67 Mustang

    Wayne,
Original pure stock CJ's went high 13's, low 14's with 3.50's and wide ovals. The 390's couldn't get out of the 15's. I had a new 67, GT 390, 4 spd, 3.50 traction lok. 15.30's were about it. The Cobra jets were a good second or second and a quarter quicker out of the box.
Slicks, tricks and headers put them in the 11's. On the street a well driven K code 289 would eat the 390's up. Then there was Barrie Poole.

I remember him. Absolutely destroyed the NMCA meets when I saw him run in that black car. He was at an NMCA meet at Grand Bend a few years later with some Comet thing. Those Mustangs and his driving were amazing. He'd jump half a car length on every shift! Reminded me of my old friend (and boss) Don McElroy, and Ronnie Sox, and Dave Strickler. Some people were magicians with a 4 speed. I was good, but not that good.
