The correct tires are F-70 -14 Polyglass .You guys are sure right about Barrie Poole he can still drive a 4 spd at 66 years,He is on his way to a show in Ga with me right now .He built the engine in my 69 428 CJ coupe. 12.92 at 106.42 so far but still tweaking
I used to attend the early NMCA series every race I could, just to see Barrie run that black car.... that's why the blue car herein intrigue's me so much. I still have a VERY vivid memory of watching Barry in Memphis in 92 or 93 racing a red '62 Catalina, that was also a stick shift.... synchronized music... ahhh, the memory's.... JH
Barr(y?) Poole Saw him at Columbus in the 70's in the white car, from Canada (68 mustang fastback) sounded like a Hydro-stick. (Dave, tell them what that was.) It was a top loader. Also saw a coupe of his, somewhere, same paint scheme. Also the year I first saw Ray Allen's black LS-6 Chevelle stand up and show off it's full exhaust system and undercoating. Almost went out and bought a Chevie, but I came to my senses before I spent the money! Phew, too close!! Wayne, have no clue, guess you'd contact the administrators. OR, just leave it as is and create confusion! I would. ou: :TU:
Hyrostick Donny, Basackwards, it was an early 4 speed hydro with a clutch. The early, very early, Hydramatics didn't have torque convertors, they had fluid couplings. Not quite the same thing. There is no torque multiplication in a fluid coupling, therefore you needed a BIG low gear. Think of the Chrysler automatics in the early 50's. I raced (drove) a 39 chevie with a small block and 6 strombergs and a hydrostick in the 50's and 60's. The car would stand up on 7 inch tires, ran C or D gas. It'd break your neck in low. :3gears:
I think that's where B & M got their start: The B & M Hydrostick. I ran against a 41 Willys at Milan in B/MP in the 60's that had a Clutchflite. (Chrysler's version of the hydrostick). It also had the push button system transplanted in it. That's even worse than a girlie-boy automatic. I used to love those old 4 speed mechanical hydramatics in the 50's GM cars. We had a 55 Olds and it was a ball to drive. The early Chrysler fluid drives were really hogs. Dynaflows, Ford a matics, Merc O matics, Powerglides, all sucked compared to them. What kills the stick shift cars in Pure Stock on our tires, is what made the stick shift cars launch harder on slicks. The shock and impact loading on the suspension and tires. High stall convertors basically do the same thing plus give you the torque multiplication. Paul Adams, who drives the "Fountain of Youth" 67 Fairlane in Nostalgia Super Stock (or is it Pro Nostalgia now) still does a pretty good job shifting that car. He grabs second while it's still in the air. Think he's in his late 70's now. Dave Strickler was poetry in motion when he ran the Old Reliable Chevys with Grumpy Jenkins. Couldn't match the torqueflite light weight Mopars, though. Think his last one was a Mopar and it's in the Chrysler museum now. Pegle, look what you started. Talk about a post highjack!
Not a Hydrostick, but... ...how about a clutch-turbo? Another cool old school speed piece...we've got 2 of those monsters in our shop. Got one with our funny car, and one with our, um, we'll say "newest toy"... :Brow:
B&M Didn't mean to hi-jack. Got side tracked, It's an old guy thing. I alsogot to work with Dave Mckenna for a while, (no pay) when he was trying to start Bannana convertor. Used to change torque convertors between rounds, had the torqueflite on slides. Fun in the grass.
I strongly suggest you do not drive your own vehicle with Michigan plates to Columbus ths week. Get a rental car or steal some Ohio plates. This is not the week to go to Columbus, Ohio with Michigan anything.
Michigan Dave, I did not steal this one. My Daughter tells me theres a bounty on Michiganders as of now. She lives in Columbus. Be afraid, very afraid. If the Wolverines should somehow win, there may be a civil war. :eek2:
Flash back to 1969............OSU ranked #1 in the nation, Michigan still in the middle of the herd........... 24-12!!!!!!! Goody, goody, goody........Bo beat Woody! That sure iced that rivalry kinda like the 1966 10-10 tie with MSU and ND when Parseghian was afraid to let MSU have the ball again and ran the clock out rather than try the field goal. Panty-waste. This is destined to be a great one! Just told Donny to rent a car, do something other than driving his own vehicle. He says he's going to get as OSU decal when he hits the border in Toledo. I suggested one of those drip rail clip on flags. I have them for MSU and UM depending on who just won.  The UM one is pretty well worn out, the MSU one looks like new...... o No:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BORD...40QQihZ007QQcategoryZ6339QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Not sure if the link is going to work but......... Barry Poole`s name is mentioned here in the ad on this 68 Cougar. This car has the Goodyears on it a rather sinister looking ride an man do I love that red interior whoa
A highjack isn't a complete highjack without an Oldsmobile pic, so to complete the most highjacked thread just for Brian,: p p p
I am unhighjacking this link. Congrats Wayne and GO BLUE. I hope to join you this spring with a Boss 302. We dyno on Tuesday the 28th. If I actually do get around to finishing the car I can get Beniot of my case about being so slow with it. Hopefully see you in the blue camp at Martin. And to rehighjack the sight with the passing of Bo I would like to add one more GO BLUE. God speed Bo and may the Wolverines win this one for you. Mark
