WTB 69 - 72 Skylark Convertible - good driver

Looking for fun weekend driver for long term. I have 3 little girls (2/4/6) and I think this would be a great way to start a family tradition, as well as turn a few heads at soccer practice. I am not particularly handy, but I can change oil, belts, tune-up etc. I have the garage space (not heated) and have owned 3 Buicks - 69 convert, 70 hardtop and a 73 century.

Wishlist
Weekend car that can handle a 100 mile trip on a Sunday from April to October
First choice is 350-4, but a 350-2 is fine
GS Clone OK, but prefer an honest Skylark Custom
Buckets and floor shift/console a BIG Plus
Factory wheels a plus
Open to all orig colors, not looking for a resto-mod or aftermarket interiors, dash boards,
Clean title, etc

I would travel up to 150 miles from NYC.
Any advice welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Tony, I'm selling my 72 GS convertible. It was my Father's car and has been in family 25 years. I found this car in Texas originally, so it's super clean underneath. Black w/white top and split-bench interior. New top and exhaust. original 350-4 (fresh re-build on carb). 40k on re-built engine. Very mild GS club cam. Factory mags w/silver centers. Only 645 made in 72. I would drive this car anywhere-very reliable. It has a few dings here and there, but it looks amazing and people go nuts when they see it. p/s,p/b, factory tach, a/c.

I've got a 68GS convert, 350 4bbl, 10k, appraised 5 years ago at 13k. Omaha car, I imported it into Canada, can easily be brought back to US. Solid floors, trunk, nice car.

We've got a 72 GS 350 4spd. conv. that we would sell. 59K original miles, Cascade Blue, black top, white bench seat interior and boot cover. Pretty rare car, 1 of 39. Excellent driver.

Still looking - since July. It has been a learning experience. I have come around to the fact that I will need to spend 25K to get a #2 car in the color/option/condition combo that I can ultimately enjoy.

 

You need to broaden your search area. You can get a car shipped to you from anywhere in the country for $2k or less, and V8Buick has board members everywhere who can help you look at a car, or you can use an inspection service, or buy a plane ticket.

Here is one I am going to look at this weekend and probably buy. It is a bench seat car, but has a 350-4 and the same owner since 1973 with 117k miles. Nice thing about the bench seat is that you can fit kids in the front with you, which is great when you don't have the whole family. I can tell you from experience, they kids will not like sitting in the back when the top is down if you are going over about 35 mph.

 

Thanks Chris for the advice. I would hop on a plane to see a good car. The front seat thing is tough for me with kids that are 2,4, and 6. But I get your point. Just out of curiosity, how did you happen to find the one you are going to see?

It was advertised on CL about 5 years ago, and I tried to buy it, but then the owner decided to save it for a family member. They decided to sell it now, since the nephew doesn't really have time for it. It has sat for several years at the assisted living center of the owner, under cover collecting door and "walker" dings from the other elderly residents. I have stayed in touch with the son in law over the years and he contacted me last week to say they are ready to sell. I have never seen the car in person, just pics, but making the 175 mile drive on Sunday and expect to be bringing it home. Then I will have to figure out what to do with it and where to put it!!!
