    Strange as it may seem!

This year, First run at Stanton, out of the trailer with pump gas, nothing changed in years, 2.150 60 ft, RT .071 14.38 never to be had again, 95.70 MPH Slow, but what's the deal? Best ever at Stanton, must of been the weather, cause, it's not me, Next best last weekend was a 14.42, so who knows? Never got a better 60 Ft, the rest of the weekend!

    best 60'

Tom I had a couple 1.88 and 1.89 60' this year. Stock original springs and original coil shocks.

The short times at Martin spoiled me; 1.84, 1.86, 1.88
The best from Stanton; 1.98, 2.00, 2.08, etc...
The Chevelle has 4.56's with 2.2 first gear. As a result if it doesn't 60', it doesn't 330' and the pass is junk.

A comparison test should be done:

60' & 330' times with no track prep

60' & 330' times with track prep (VHT or the like)

Now, back to that VHT donation fund for next year @ Stanton...

Best 60ft time on the spread sheet that I saw was Jullie Penninton. A 1.81 :Dou: Absolutely, no 60ft, no low ET. First 1/2 of the track is a must...

Yes Brian Stefina I know. If ya don't make the show you can never work on 60ft times.

(poke poke .... prod prod) What's with all the whining about track prep at Stanton? Did VHT exist back in the late 60s? Were tracks carefully prepped for weekend racers?

Shouldn't the PSMCDR track be kept "Pure Stock" too? If you want more traction, why not lobby Dan and Bob to allow sticky tires? :Brow: Back in the day, maybe Joe Average street raced on his bias plys, but he bolted on a set of slicks when he went to the track .....

You know....just yesterday Miller was lamenting the two years he wasted not wanting to replace his headers.....

Maybe one day you will understand. :beer

    MR. BG,

They may have not had VHT, but they did have a traction compound. It was known as 'Gold Dust', but many of us know it as resin! I know of quite a few tracks that still use Gold Dust with VHT. Makes for a very sticky track. As for whining about us whining....

When Julie learns to 60ft that orange bass boat it will lay down a unreal number. :3gears:

My bonehead brother and I both got 1.77's in time trials. :Brow: Can't wait till next year!

Like they say, "Procrastination is nine tenths of the law!" Or something like that. Don't worry, I already understand. I'm just having fun with the whiners.

Gold Dust, eh? I've seen old pictures of it. I just assumed those cars had sand dispensers like diesel locomotives use for traction.

Increased bite would make the race more fun for spectators, too. Many of the top cars are running fast/quick enough get good air under the front tires -- if they could just launch a little harder.

I think the alleged lack of track prep is a vast right-wing conspiracy to reduce parts breakage at this event. Stanton is not exactly known in racing circles as a slick track.

you could have a point on parts breakage . i had never run a car at a strip before last year(just turned 40,mid life crisis maybe) and not use to but a couple tracks(my home town and stanton) and i did some geting use to at home this summer and everything i learned did not work. so yes i'm whining,i have a right still in infant stage at this game and like the rest learning as i go.

Saturday morning Tim, Ronda, John and I were at the track first.....

Anyway, Bob Boden told us the track was using a different prep, that works well for slicks but not for Drag Radials or the Polyglass.

They were going to ask for a special prep next year with the old material, if that bore fruit we'd have to find out from him or Dan. :Do No:

Thanks for the info Brian S. That helps explain some issues.

    Now, about the "whining".
If stating the obvious (once), not dancing around it, is whining. I am guilty.

By the way, it is 2006. Everyone at these events is taking advantage of modern day technology and advancements. That is why the cars are quicker, more reliable, safer, consistent, etc..

With that in mind, why does the track surface need to be circa 1970?

Racing at these events is a great. I appreciate all of the effort put forth by Dan & Bob and all the volunteers. I have been to many different tracks and Stanton is definitely one of the better facilities.

That withstanding, the facts do not change. The launch surface was not consistent. I am not pointing fingers or have any theory as to why. Nor am I interested in continuing debating it.

    Oh and one more thing...
Insinuating that a person is a "whiner" and/or "whining" is easy to do through a keyboard.
    See ya' in 2007.

Julie Pennington was the Queen of the 60' times, too

In all, 19 cars topped a 2.0 short time on Saturday during the shootouts

I like how balanced that list is! While it's a little top-heavy with, umm, 2-seater sports cars :Brow: , look at how many makes and models are represented. Heavy and light, leaf and coil, solid and independent. All of these people are to be congratulated for making their combination work and get off the line quickly!
