Yeah, they are one of my favorite classic cars. I have been looking for one locally for a very long time. Found a 72' Pontiac Safari that disappeared before I got back to it, a 73' Buick Estate Wagon that was originally a northern car and was too rough for me and still locally- a old lady has a 72' Chevrolet Kingswood Estate wagon (Caprice), in EC, with the 402 engine that she refuses to sell. It has been setting in her garage for several years, still in like new condition- covered in dust. AHHHH!!!! I have left note after note reminding her that I want that car. Even spoke once on the phone and she said that she was not ready to sell at this time- that was 4 years ago. Also, in a old junk yard not too far from here is a 71' Grand Safari wagon that has set for 20 years and in terrible shape.

These cars are getting rarer and rarer everyday- they are the favorite cars of the demo derby drivers. They are so hard to find now.... hard to believe that between all of them that Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Chevrolet made between 1971-1976 - over 1,000,000 to be exact, that so few remain today.

I have done alot of research on these cars and here is just a little info on the production totals of each make of these wagons. The Oldsmobile numbers were "broken down" between woodgrain-non woodgrain models, but that info not available for the other makes. Note however that the only Chevrolet wagon with the woodgrain as standard was the Caprice and was the only model woodgrain was available on. I am sure that an Impala or lower level wagon may have been ordered with woodgrain, but I bet it would have been a special ordered model and probably very few, if any were so equipped.

    enjoy.....
