    Default Frequently asked questions about 4 speed parts..PLEASE ADD TO THIS!!

    After performing board search after board search, came up with this post of pics and descriptions of 4 speed parts that are frequently asked about.
    My source for many of the pics is this BOARD, so 'thank you' to the members who posted the pics!!!
    Yes, I am bored....
    First up, is a pic of a NON-CONSOLE 1968-1972 shifter boot. Year One stopped repro'ing these last year. Is there a new source?

    That boot is held on by this boot retaining ring. This ring was used on BOTH the consolette and non-consolette cars.

    This ring attached to the floor by sheet metal screws to what is referred to as a trans 'hump'. Here is one that some members are using- for a 66-67 Chevy Chevelle

    There is some confusion regarding console (s), consolettes. This is a consolette (without tach). Also, you would note the two (2) rings used for this style of console (consolette). The lower boot retaining ring- color of steel, and the upper boot retaining ring, which is either a chrome finish or polished aluminum. These are VERY HARD TO FIND!!!!

    Here is a 4 speed consolette AND a type 2 STORAGE console (many people refer to this style of console as a 'consolette'). There are three (3) styles of storage consoles: a type 1 (1965- early 1970)- has a Buick tri shield emblem (refer to next post) and a late 1970-1972 type 2 with a push button (refer to pic below). There is also the third which is used to hold eight tracks, etc. The storage consoles attach to the floor by a bracket in the rear welded to the floor and one (1) screw for the front.

    Shifter handle. 'HURST' down the bend. Part #5335 should be found on the bottom of the shifter.

    Great post George...needs to be made a sticky

    I have a 70 trans that I'm going to install in my 69...the pic of the 70 trans show I have the correct 1-2 shift rod and arm.... I need the 3-4 shift rod and arm and....the Reverse rod and arm...anyone have those rods...

    fat chance of ever getting a 69 set up

    This is somewhat general to all 4 speeds but here goes. M20 and M21 transmissions have 27 spline outlets, which means the yoke from a TH350 will work in it. Infact the driveshaft is the same length, which would make a conversion easy in that aspect.

    An M22 uses the 32 spline output shaft, which is the TH400 yoke. I am unsure of the length changes between the M22 vs the TH400, so I am not sure about the driveshaft compatibility.

    Also, I have seen BOP bellhousings that have no provision for the ball stud for the clutch fork. I have no idea what the application is for, must be a cable style clutch linkage. as a matter of fact the bellhousing that is in my car is like that. Its ok for me since I run the hydraulic clutch, but it obviously would not work for a stock type setup.

    63 to 70 m-20 m-20 and m-22..had the 10 spline input 27 output

    71 and up m-20 m-20 and m-22...had the 32 spline input and the turbo 400 output

    and... the ball stud is mounted to the engine not the bell housing

    Consolette is not the correct name for any storage unit. The correct name is storage console or center storage console. The term consolette is used only for the optional unit that surrounds the manual shift lever on a 3 or 4 speed unit.

    The unit with an accordian door is a mini console. It came in to esse in 72 or 73 as I recall. I believe it was intended in part to provide a place to put your eight track tapes.


    You need the lower boot and the engine side ball stud boot. I also have the dimensions for the center storage console mounting brackets.

    opgi list the non console boot in there catalog

    here is the description- these are exact reproductions of orginal skylark shift boots that fit all years. they are exclusively manfactured by opgi and feature the correct texture rubber with all the holes in the right places for a factory fit and look.
