    Scott,
You have quite a collection of cars. Thanks for confirming what I believe is correct. I have two 70 cars...one a 70 Skylark conv granny car.....2 owner and it is all original and it does not have any holes. The other car is a 2 owner 70 GS455 coupe and it is also all original...no holes in those fenders.

I believe the 71-2 cars got the holes...maybe Buick discovered a problem with welding the inner brace/hinge support to the outer fender skin and added dowel/pin/alignment holes to prevent future problems. Could also be a plant variation.

I have a friend that bought a 71 Stg1 coupe new and still owns it....it is all original and never been touched. I will check his fenders when I see him.

    Thanks for your information.

Jim, the picture was taken in 1982. Was this the year you bought the car, if so you waited a long time to restore it. Where did you find the GSX? Pat

I bought the car in I believe 2003. We are the third owners if you do not count the dealership. Most of the story is covered in related threads:

We had an auto Stage 1 70 X too that I suppose I should not have sold but it went to a good home in Cal with a Board member.

Wish I could help you Joe but you know how they are to find. The best hope is someone like the Parts Place with repro them. It is an easy part to do relative to some others.

Thanks Jim. I just hope someone here may have one, or know where to find one. It's a Hunter Green, white top ( originally black, changed to white in the early '80's, but still has factory rear window and black lower panel, dyed white), Green interior, bench seat, # matching, non console 4spd. Thanks again for the reply Jim. Joe X.

Would this resto be correct for a std Stage 1 car? Reason I am building a model of what my 70 Stage 1 car would have looked off the show room floor.

What do you meant by standard stage 1. There are only a few cosmetic things that are stage 1 specific: maybe chrome valve covers and decals, fuel pump bowl and line, etc

As you know the GSX was just an option/appearance package. Aside from cosmetics, except for the steering box and maybe the hood tach, there was no difference between this car and a non GSx 70 stage 1. I am not sure if you want to count the special smaller diameter steering wheel with the larger grip.

The steering box was unique to GSx's?

    I didn't know that.

It was a quick ratio steering box and was unique and part of GSX option in 1970.
In 1970 Quick ratio box was not available in a regular GS car.

In 71-72 it was optional in any GS or GSX and not included in 71-72 WA5 GSX ornamentation package.
