Patton, Excuss my ignorance but I've taken apart a 71 skylark and 72 gs and neither car had a gas tank pad. I'm getting ready to mount my new tank under my 71, is this something i should be putting in? Sound deadning or what? thanks Gord

Gord--I mention that in my first post on here. Many cars did not have these installed and it looks like it probably was stopped by GM sometime early in the '71 model year. If you are doing a concours type resto (for judging) on a '72 then I would say "No..don't use one as your car didn't have one originally".

On a non-concours judged car it's completely optional and your choice. GM discontinued using it...was it cost cutting?? or was it decided the cars were just fine without them?? Who knows

It's more of an anti-rub or anti-squeek deal IMO....not a heat insulator or anything like that. Again, when the tank straps are snugged up against the bottom of the tank the tank "ain't goin' anywhere" so I doubt you'll have any squeeks or rubs without one (again..GM didn't think so, or maybe GM's beancounters didn't think so!). I think the assembly manuals just describe them as "insulator" which leaves it open to interpretation as to WHY they put them in.

I offer this item primarily in the interest of making the cars appear like they did from the factory. Sure, it also ads weight (not a lot)....but if you're going to add weight you might as well do it back by the rear wheels !

I have had reports of people dropping their ET's by over half a second just from adding one of my Gas Tank Pads. 60 foot times are incredible also!!!

Let me know if you have any other questions and thank you. I pm'd you on shipping. Thanks

Use these pads here in the shop, great product and price.

If your doing resto or gas tank work soon, you need one of these pads.

You had mentioned something about custom pads as well. To you think one would be modified to fit my '73 4-door electra?

Just have to mention that Patton is a top notch seller and goes the extra mile for his customers, if we had a rating system from 1 to 10 it would be a 10+. Thank you again Patton, parts were right on the money.
