Sure, same converter, forged cover $665

That's the standard price now for all my non lockup 9.5" converters. Up about $100 from what I used to offer, the new manufacturer has a great deal on forged covers, and that is what we use now exclusively. Same cover that used to be on my $900 converter. I felt that the big upgrade for such a small extra cost was worth it. All converters now have HD 7/16-20 mounting lugs.

hi Jim . I have a 4200lb rw 1970 GS with a VP converter . the eng is a 535 BBB stroker, the converter low stall is 1400 and high is 4500 best 60' is 1.51 et 1070 @ 125.95 and spun hard in 1st but has gone 127 I was wondering if my converter could be tighter for top end as with 3.91 gears its 6500rpm out the back and I don't like to spin it that hard . but I like the switch on the street for fun !!I did dyno the eng 757tq @ 4800 /767hp @ 6000. I think I got that converter from poston back 12years ago

1400 is already modified to be lower than stock, so I doubt your going to get any serious rpm reduction with converter. You will probably have to run a taller slick, or drop the rear gear, with your present combo.

What tires are your currently running?

I also think the car would be faster with the correct 9.5" fixed pitch converter, but yes, not as much fun on the street.

How much differance in ET and 60' would we expect if I:
    1.Let you rebuild/modify my old KB 12" s/p converter.
    2.Swap my old 12" s/p for your 9.5" converter.

    Jim,
    Really like your converter.
If I run the 1/8th mile and cross the line at 90 mph, I need to know what % of converter slip to expect from the 9.5" 3500 converter I bought from you.
I plan to use my th400 in 2nd gear, 3.42 rear, and MT 28" sticky tire.
My original BUICK tach is not accurate enough to guarantee the 6000 rpm limit for my stock rod/piston engine. Just checked a Wallace calculator and got 5465 rpm at 90 mph based on 3.42 x 1.48 (2nd gear) = 5.06 gear.
Now I need to add the converter slip to the 5465 rpm to assure a safe 6000 rpm limit at the finish line. What is your best guess on slip rpm?

First off, I would suggest it's a good idea to temporarily attach an accurate aftermarket tach for testing.

I think you will be ok, should be around 5700-5800 rpm at 90 mph in 2nd gear. Maybe slightly less.

Get an accurate rpm/finish line mph and the rollout of the rear tires, and we could figure the converter slip pretty close.

But that would be my best guess, figuring with lockup, you would be at just shy of 5500.

So 300 to 400 slip would be a good guess at 5450 rpm to add on for a c118 cam and ported stage 2 heads? Not so much torque up there any way, my guess.
Just don't want disaster. If it blows, it's for sale. Struggled to get this far, getting old and broke.
This site makes me feel younger though, it is my true companion.
