Default Lighthearted discussion: vintage rims- pics, thoughts, styles...

Remembering all of the articles in regards to ordering 'musclecars' with hubcaps due to switching them out for aftermarket rims.. Let's see some pics, hear some stories of wheels bought, sold, found or STOLE ... What was out there in the 60's and 70's?
Cragars, Mickey Thompson, Halibrand, Ansen, American Racing, etc...
I have been searching for a set of 15" Mickey Thompson M/T's or a set of Radirs...
    GOLD anodized Cragars???

Give me a good sideshot of your car, and it will take me 5 minutes.

Everyone in my family HATES the 17's on my car- and regularly begs me to put a set of rallyes on it.

Personally I like the old Keystone Klassics. They are similar to the rallye's with a little more style.

Yeah, I always liked the look of the Keystones as well. Ran Cragar SS's on my Skylark in High School. I bought all my friends Buick stuff when he started having kids. Now that my GS is done, I think I may have to look at throwing the orange one back together strictly as a racecar. Since it is a clone, we started making it a track only car, just never finished it .

Old cars look best with old wheels. I have to agree on the 17 inch jobs. Older cars with bigger wheels and low profile tires just do not look right.

In the 60s I had the Keystone Klassics shown above on my 63 Corvette.

Before that I had chrome reverse rims with spinners by Appliance on a 66 Mustang.

Meanwhile a friend had the now defunct Fenton Mags on his 71 454 SS.

Finally here is a pic of a lot of the classic wheels:

My brother had Keystone Klassic's on his 71 GS clone convert (that i drove most of the time through high school in the late '70's ealy 80's) red with a white top...sweet looking ride.
I like the looks of the first gen Keystones way better than the mid 70' on through. A restored first gen is worth very, very big bucks. Were used on a lot of early '70's drag cars, and now restored drag cars.
I always try and pick some cheap ones up at swap meets...

Seeing pictures like this, is one of the main reasons i keep coming back to this site. Plus the witty banter.
These pictures are all fantastic, I missed all of this growing up in Britain there is nothing on earth like a Buick musclecar.

Found an old picture of my Skylark from about 1979. Note the generous use of air shocks Had the Cragar SS wheels and a ZL-1 hood.

    Guy,

If you ever run across a set of 15x6 (prefer) or 15x7 first gen Klassics, let me know. I need a pair to go with a set of old 15x4s I have.
I have a pair of 14x6 first gen Klassics, but I don't know what to do with them. I've been searching for another matching pair for years for those. I want a set to look just like the ones above! I have an extra set of first gen Klassic center caps, also very hard to find.

I love the old 5-slot aluminum mag wheels. I have 3 sets of them. I just can't help but buy them when I see them, especially if there's a matched set, and in good condition. On my wife's Camino, There's a set of 5-slots I bought and cleaned up for $100 from the guy who lived behind me. There's a picture in this thread http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=124360&page=2 #45. They're now on her 77 Cutlass, because she wanted her rally wheels back on the 65.
I also bought a set of 6-lug 5-slots from the junkyard off an 85 K-5 blazer, because they were all there, and in awesome condition. I don't even own anything with 6-lugs!!! What's wrong with me?!!? I do have a set of Torq thrust knock off (american eagle) wheels on my 94 Jimmy, because I love that style. I painted the spokes black to match the truck. Sorry, I'm just rambling now.
