Default How rare is a 1968 GS "California" edition?

Saw one for sale. Not sure how many years they made the California edition of the GS, but I'm guessing not too many years and fairly low production. Anyone have one or know about these?

There was one featured in Car Craft this month. Look in the section called "Junkyard Crawl", by Steve Magnante. Some good info.

Not as rare as you might think by Buick standards, about 4,800 made.

Did the issue you are talking about just come out? I subscribe and didn't get the current one yet. Last one I have has the AMC in Junkyard Crawl.

You are right, thought perhaps less.

VIN shows it as a "33", which denotes Deluxe L6 - not V6, L6. What is that?

L head straight 6. You might know it as the 250. It was borrowed from Chevy.

The California was a basic pillar coupe with a GS 350 engine and 2 speed auto in '68. There was also a Colorado version, made up by some pissed off Colorado dealers.

I just read something on them, and it said 68 was the first year it was available nationally.

I know they made some Colorado ones, not sure if there were any Carolina's but it does sound somewhat familiar.

I understand no Carolina ones, just Colorado ones done by dealers mad that CA got its own. Not factory though.

    yup, yup, and yup.

As others have said, '67 was California dealers made-up version only, '68 & '69 were Buick approved and offered nationwide.

'68 & '69 were basically the GS350 drivetrain in the lighter 2 door post sedan body. The VIN sharing with the L6 Special Deluxe confuses many.

On fun fact was the stock single exhaust, imagine trying to push 280HP through a single pipe!
