I sent that article to Jim Weise last month to make a sticky out of it, but nothing yet I think it deserves to be one, with all the info. For the guys trying to stay with the stock look. Im glad you posted it Gary

After looking at this, am I to believe the only difference between a WG 15x7 and the rest of the 15x7 5x4.75 wheels was just the stamping? I've always been given to believe the WG wheel had 1/4" less back spacing than the more common 15x7 that made the WG look deeper.

    I'm confused!

That's a nice chart, but some of the info is not correct.

What are you guys going to do when you find "WM" wheels?.............or when you find 1970 14" & 15" wheels both with and without codes?
Just to name a few things.

    Guys,
I already did this for the Buick A-bodies. I wrote 2 wheel articles for the BPG Newsletter. The first was the optional 15" wheels and the second was for the optional 14" wheels. Both articles also included how to decifer the date codes found on the wheels.

Not only did they cover the 14" & 15" chrome plated wheels (plus the 15" painted variety), but also the 14" Super Sport (both 69-70 & 71-72 varieties), the 14" Chevy style Rallys, and the optional 15" Sport Wheels with the dog dish center caps and trim rings.

Both of these articles are on George Nenadovich's site. Maybe someone can post a link to them.

What is the correct answer about the non-WG backspacing? Is it the same? I'm getting 15x7s but what should I get backspacing wise for a 72?

From what I see on the chart the back spacing is the same for the 3 15 x 7 rims listed on the bottom. The only difference is the size of the section of the rim were the tire bead hits, the WG has a bigger contact area, the rest of the numbers listed look the same.

So for any of those 3 listed on the bottom you are going to get a 4 3/8th inch back spacing.

    Hope that helps.

    That is correct,
The back spacing for all the original 70-72 A-body 15" rims is 4 3/8".

The difference in the outward appearance of the wheels is due to different stampings of the rims. (The cross-sections are different.)
