    Default 455 and an SM465

I'm building up my CJ7 right now and am going to be dropping a 455 in it here shortly. Right now I have an SM465 behind the original I6 in my CJ and have seen in Jpmagazine that one of the editors had the SM420 behind his buick 455. What would be needed to make this happen? I know I'm going to need an adapter bellhousing of some kind, and have heard that I may need to drill a hole in the crankshaft for the pilot bushing since these motors never came with a manual?

Some came with a manual trans but you would still need to check the crank. It still may need to be machined a bit. There are some threads on this.

I've never seen a SM420 or SM465 mated to a Buick motor, Usually the long-shaft T-18, T-15 or TH400 A/T on Full Size Jeep Trucks.

I know that the CJ's used a shorter bellhousing than the big Jeep Trucks.
That may work for other GM applications.

Good Luck on the project, my 1968 M-715 will have either the 350v8 or 455v8 Buick engine installed to a T-18 or TH400 A/T or NV4500 5 speed O/D manual transmission.

    I do have a SM420 that will used on my 1956 Willy's CJ-5 SBC.

If you read Jp-magazine there's an article from a few years back about the editor Rick pewe that has a Buick 455 with an SM420 in his 45' Ford GPW. But I can't seem to find info on what adapters or things he had to customize to do it.
