Default Wipers will not turn off.

What is it that goes wrong inside the windshield wiper motor that makes it not turn off? I have the 1 speed wiper motor.

Even with the switch unplugged, the wiper motor keeps running.

The wiper switch is bad in the dash. I just went through the same thing.

the switch inside the wiper has an electro magnet that gets stuck/ permanently magnetized - you have to replace that - or you can try putting a piece masking tape behind it ( the plunger looking piece) - my 70 Estate worked fine for years with the tape temporary fix - 78 Park Ave did the same thing wouldn't turn on replaced whole motor.

Seems a shame to replace the motor. It works fine. Other than it won't stop working fine.

It used to be a Delco service part known as a "Park Switch". Don't know if it's still in the AC Delco system. If you can find one it's an easy fix.

It it the same design for my old 65 single speed "box" style wiper as the later 70s Skylarks? Does my 65 box have a "park switch"?

Steven, you should also make sure the wiper motor is not grounded to the firewall.

I know that there is a ground strap going from the motor mounting plate to one of the bolts from the factory. Doesn't this mean that the housing is supposed to be grounded to the firewall?

Also, are these wipers supposed to stop at the bottom of the windshield automatically? Before they started malfunctioning, I had to time it just right when I turned the switch of because they stopped wherever they were when the switch was turned off.

That one's ok. The wiper motor has constant power when the key is on, the dash switch only completes the ground. If they won't turn off it may have a constant ground.

My '66 Chevy Biscayne had; auto park, 1 speed wipers. My Chevy was an absolutley, No Option car. (heater and driver's sun visor, only). Surely, a Buick would; also, have auto park wipers.
