After an exhaustive internet search..."AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE NEVER SEEN (CODE 85) CHESTNUT BRONZE METALLIC PAINT, THIS PAINT COLOR IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING"

    http://rods-classics.com/content/196...le-442-4-speed

Around 1985 I saw a '69 Riviera GS this color with a black vinyl top and chrome road wheels. That was stunning.

I don't think I've ever seen this color on a 69 GS, but I think it would look great!

It was a Riviera color, somebody would have to have paid the extra money to get it. I know folks like Roberta have the production numbers on paint, maybe they can help?

Well, if I continue forward with this 69GS400, I basically have a blank slate. That color would look great with a fresh white interior.

Since it was a Riv color it would be an SCO paint color for the GS. I don't believe there is a break down of the actual SCO colors but it does list that 101 GS (400 & 350) cars had SCO paint so the number of Copper Mist cars would be pretty low since the SCO covered all special order paint cars.

Mike, do you know how many 1968 GS 400's were painted Medium Teal Blue (code L)?

I love colors that do that. Aqua Mist on a '70, for example. But, this can also be partially the result of base/clear IMHO.

The Fireglow car I had was Q-Q on the trim tag with no SCO notation.

My 69 Fireglow ragtop was the 89th GS built according to the cowl tag . No SCO noted but a ''-'' for the paint code with black top and no carpet on the lower front door panels and no rear ashtrays on the rear panels. Screw up ? Maybe the first Fireglow rag top built ? Day one build ? Also squared off 400 emblems on hood compared to more common swept back ones.

I wonder how close this paint color formula is to Chevy's 1966 Aztec Bronze?? Looks very similar.

Correct, as 69 GS 400 noted, the early cars had a "-" paint code for SCO color, and as Brian noted, the later cars had a "Q".

My convertible has a "-" and was built in Fremont. I don't have my "Mike Trom" book of numbers with me here at the office, but IIRC it is 1 of 1 or 1 of 2 "-" paint 69 GS convertibles built in Fremont.

    Is that a 70 hood on a 69 car?

Shouldn't be "day one" build issue, as your car was built in May of 69,, pretty late build date. Also, IIRC "A" top code is white, not black.

Yours has a low body number (89) and mine is 90, which is very common on the SCO cars. I will have to check, but I believe mine has carpeted front door panels (original) and rear ash trays.
