Default Legitimacy of Paypal email from "service@paypal"

Has anyone else got one of these? I'm always a little apprehensive because of all the scammers out there.

    Mine reads as follows:

    We need your help
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

We emailed you a little while ago to ask for your help resolving an issue
with your PayPal account. Your account is still temporarily limited because
    we haven't heard from you.

We understand it may be frustrating not to have full access to your PayPal
account. We want to work with you to get your account back to normal as
    quickly as possible.

    What's the problem?

We want to check with you to make sure that no one has logged in to your
    account without your permission.

Please take a moment to change your password and create new security
questions. You should also take a look at your account information and
recent transactions. Make sure that your account information (address,
phone number, etc.) hasn't changed and that you recognize all of your
    recent transactions.

If you see a payment that you don't recognize, let us know by going to the
Resolution Center. Click "Dispute a Transaction" to report an unauthorized
    transaction.

    How you can help

It's usually pretty easy to take care of things like this. Most of the
time, we just need a little more information about your account or latest
    transactions.

To help us with this and to see what you can and can't do with your account
until the issue is resolved, log in to your account and go to the
    Resolution Center.

    Sincerely,
    PayPal
    Brett Slater

Just go online to your paypal account and see if you have a message. Probably don't. Most likely scam. Never click the links of an email like this and enter your information.

Go to the paypal website (not from a link in the email). If it is legit it will be there when you log in.

    SPAM alert.

    Brett,

You should be able to see any legitimate Paypal messages when you log into your account. This is a phishing email.
Forward the email to spoof@paypal.com this will help them track the source.

If the email doesn't come with your first and last name, they are almost always spam.

I get these email messages from (supposedly) PayPal regularly. I knew they were scams before I even opened the email. How can I be so sure ? I don't even have a PayPal account........

I just went through a bogus so called Ebay alert. It stated I was in arrears
with my Papal pay later account. It wanted me to open the invoice, which I didn't. I have never used the pay later program so I knew it was bogus. I notified Ebay, maybe they can track it down.

I get these from Ebay, Paypal and most of the larger banks. Even banks I dont have CC accounts with. Just delete and forget about them.

Also, if you 'hover' your mouse pointer over the link, it will usually show a different destination than what's typed as the link. I always delete these as well.
    Thanks!

FWIW I recently use my CC at Rock Auto and 2 weeks later I find the CC number being used in their area. I contacted my CC carrier and they voided the charges and sent new cards but that was the only time I used my card over the internet. I contacted Rock Auto and complained but never heard back. IMHO who ever took the order must have copied my CC info So now I don't use Rock anymore. Any one else have this happen to them? Oh and the Paypal is for sure phishing operation that's been going on for a while. I go to my Ebay and link to Paypal because you never know if your getting a dummy paypal site.
