    Default Buick 350 belt routing??

I just put a 350 in my 65 sport wagon and it's down to belts at this point.

I'm using various pulleys from my original 300 (alternator and Power steering) and 350( crank pulley) and 455 (water pump pulley). Finally I have thje right combination where they look like they will line up.

I had went to NAPA and ordered belts for a 350. One for the power steering and 1 for the alternator. Neither 1 fit both 2 short.

But the question I have is on the 350 does the Alternator belt go around just the water pump pulley?

Or around the crank pulley, water pump and alternator pulley? <<<<<<<

    I guess I'm having a brain fart.............

The PS pump goes just to the crank pulley, the other one goes from the crank to the water pump and the alternator. If you have AC,you would need another belt for that.Bruno.

    Bruno,

Thanks for the info. No A/C here. I'm having a hard time rembering things here lately.

Another question on 350 HEI. Which spot on the cap would be the #1 cylinder?

firing order 18436572 same as 455?

I've got my 455 here on the floor but the vacuum advance where it is doesn't look like it's in the same spot as the 350 dist. I was going to use that for refference. Unless I'm going nuts here.

Does anybody have a top view pic of their 350 installed. Thanks.

    Yes, 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

In post number 9 of this thread I show some pics of a HEI installed on a Buick 350:

As you likely know it does not matter which terminal on the cap you use for number 1, as long as the timing can be adjusted where you want it and the vacuum advance is not in the way of anything.

Your pic looks like the way I have mine installed with the wires at the base of the distrib coming out the front. Well here is why I ask about the # 1. I was just curious which one would be common. I bought this engine from a board member that left the wires on the engine along with the wire holder on top of the dist to make it easy. The issue is it won't clip on the top easily in either way it would go. I was just trying to make it super easy without going through the process of finding TDC. I figured it would be one was or the other. I guess tomorrow will be a new day. So close to getting this thing running then off to the exhaust shop.

    Thanks

A motors book should have a diagram showing which shows the factory spot for number 1!!

I have a Chilton's for all models and makes from 1971 and down but the pic isn't that good for which is # 1 compared where the wires would be for HEI. I also searched on line a few minutes put gave up.

I'm by far not a mechanic.

Usually #1 would be around 7 O'Clock, like Sean said, you can put it any way you want as long as you follow up with TDC to #1 spark plug. BrunoD.

On a points type small cap, #1 is the first tower clockwise from the adjustment window.
