I think having the opening bid at 30k and the BIN at 30k as well, kind of defeats the purpose of the auction format of Ebay. I think the auction would have more activity if it was started at $200 with a reserve. More activity generates more interest. People see an auction with zero bids and figure its either too much or something is wrong with it. Kinda like going to a restaurant and seeing no cars in the lot. Place could serve the best food in town, but if the lot is empty, people think the place stinks

I saw this auction and wondered if anyone here knew the car.

I think it is the biggest mistake sellers make on eBay. And they will do it over and over again with no sale.
Odds are if started at $200.00 as you suggest, it will actually sell for more.
Just put a reserve on it if you fear giving it away.

IMO, these type of auctions are geared more towards exposure. Even if it doesn't sell in this ebay format, it still generates interest.

Rich has quite an impressive collection of rare project cars.

If that's the objective, then I agree. No better place than Ebay to garner exposure. But it helps to have a few bids to have as ammunition. For example- if Rich's auction went to 28k and a reserve not meant with 30+ bids, he would be in a better position to negotiate a sale off Ebay than have zero bids at the end with a 30k starting price

Bidders want to think they're getting the car for under what the seller wants. In other words, everyone wants to think they got a good deal. Rich is basically tipping his hand and telling bidders that this is what he wants and there is no negotiation. I don't know, maybe I read too much into these things in trying to understand the psychology of the Ebay bidder.

And I agree, everyone should have a bunch of GSX's littering their yard. I wish I had his problems

Rich is a very smart guy and I think he is well aware of what he is doing. That said he says in his add " no reserve auction " DUH !! And if rich wanted to negotiate the price it would be listed $30 000 or best offer.

Rich is no rookie he is very aware of how to buy and sell his Buicks. I like that he placed a price on his GSX as I have seen it run before without a BIN price and wondered what price he was thinking he wanted for it. Now I know.

Good Luck Rich. That would be a sweet car fixed up.
