Default 67 GS400 Radio Aerial location?

So, I have three 67 Skylark/GS400 cars and I have a question about radio aerial location. On the GS400 hardtop and the station wagon the aerial is on the passenger side, front fender. On the convertible I recently purchased the aerial is on the left or driver's side rear quarter next to the trunk. There is no evidence of a hole ever in the passenger side front fender. Anyone know if convertibles had the aerials on the left rear? There is a wire connection close to the left rear aerial so I wonder if that was for a power antenna but don't have a knob or switch in the dash for a power antenna.

The aerial on the left rear is new and never hooked up to the radio so I am thinking someone in the past put it there even though it may belong up front on the passenger side.

    Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Chuck

My '67 convertible has it located up front on the right in the same location as your other cars. I am pretty sure my fenders are original to the car, along with the antenna. I bet someone added it to the trunk location on your car because they like the way it looked.

My 67 GS400 convertible has it in the RF fender, I also am parting a 67 Skylark convertible that has it in the fender, all 66 and 67 cars I've seen are there for that matter.

    Thanks,
My thought is that is a true statement. Never seen a rear mounted antenna on a '67 GS. Some Chevelle's and GTO's had them but not Buick IIRC.

Thanks guys, You confirmed what I have been thinking. Now I have to decide if I put a chrome plug in the rear hole since I don't want to have to fill it and ruin a new paint job.

Chuck,my 67 GTO convertible has a power antenna on the right rear.If yours looks okay, you could continue to use your antenna as it is. The only peeps who would have an inkling that this is not "correct" would be a handful of '67 Buick cognoscente. This would avoid having to install a dummy plug(chrome or otherwise) and the additional hassle of drilling your front fender for an antenna.

It could be an assembly plant procedure, would be interesting to find out if the cars with the rear mount were from the same plant. My Baltimore 67 GS 400 has the side pinstripe reversed from the factory drawings. Some of us think that it was a BA only goof because they also produced Olds, Chevy, and Pontiac A body's there on the same assembly line. The Pontiac factory drawings showed the pinstripe reversed from the Buick type. Further research might prove that it is as it left the factory. I wouldn't change it.

Here it that tread in case you are interested.

I concur! Archie's right, I wouldn't mess with it at this point. I'd rather have the antenna in that spot instead of a plug if it were mine. Of course, it's your car and your call.

Having lived and breathed 67 Buick for 37 years and being prior 67 tech advisor for the BCA I have never seen a rear antenna from the factory on a 67 Buick "A" body. Always wished it was an option though,

Again thanks guys. Since the car has a couple of updates from original IE: after market front disk brakes, 15" Buick chrome rally wheels, I think I go with the aerial where it is on the left rear quarter panel and move on. I am not wanting a 400 point car but as original as possible within reason. Original drop tops or close to original continue to hold their value. It does have the original numbers matching block and 4 speed transmission. I will post a few photos when we have the electric windows working right and the interior back in.

guys since on the topic of antennas's there a special tool you need to tighten that 3/4 nut that holds the antenna lead in place in the fender hole?

Is it possible that the frt fender u have is for a radio delete car? That would be a good reason to not need an antenna hole

Chris, I am thinking the right front fender may have been an NOS replacement but have not had the front clip apart to check it out. I am taking the car to a body shop this week and we will discuss filling the rear hole, matching the white paint and mounting the antenna on the right front fender. Cost will be a factor in my decision.
