Default Has anyone tried Enginestat -- virtual guages

    http://enginestat.com/

Interesting idea, a way to get gauges and alerts on your phone or tablet. No need to mess with your dash look and it gives you alerts if you don't notice an issue. Seems clever! Assume it uses Bluetooth, I can't speak to the accuracy or durability but I don't thin I have seen anything like it.

    Anyone tried it???

How does it work without sending units? It says it "clips" onto existing wiring?

Well, it has a single "black box" with 3 sensors that you wire into the engine bay. I assume the box is a simple programmable CPU, something like a https://www.raspberrypi.org/ board that has the 3 sensors wired in. Clip on is a little generous but the idea is that you don't have to disable any existing sensor hardware/lights to add these sensors, they operate in parallel. I believe the black box connects to your phone or tablet via bluetooth. There is an install video on YouTube -- just google it. I would suspect it's not a perfect solution but that doesn't mean it's not a good value. I thought it was pretty clever and it seemed like a practical way to get more than an idiot light without having to tear up your dash. Adding gauges is a challenge as hiding them defeats their purpose and putting them front and center may not be very ascetically appealing.

Next thing, they'll project your windshield onto the smartphone so that you can keep texting while driving.

Default Interesting, thanks for sharing. (Re: Has anyone tried Enginestat )

    bostoncat68 and V-8 Buick fans of high-tech,

No I wasn't even aware of this setup, but it does seem interesting. Thanks for sharing, I'll look into it.

    Cheers, Edouard
