After 2 years, the first thing that comes to mind is that you need fresh gas. Or did you drain the old and refill already?

Did it run O'k when parked?

If you have points distributor - file the contacts and fuel is skunked for sure. Ethanol gas absorbs moisture and has short shelf life.

    Absolutely!
The gas could be bad by now, and I'm sure the carb dried up, leaving things sticky/stuck after two years

Engines need fuel, spark, and air to run. Could be several things, but gasoline with ethanol will not last more than 4-6 months without a stabilizer.

Get a hold of a spray paint can cap, the type with a smaller round center snap on the can section, fill that center section will new gas then pour half of it down each side of the primary of the Carb with the choke open.
Next make sure the choke closes all the way and crank the motor, it should start and run for 3 to 4 seconds, or atleast try to run and kick real good.
This will prove out your bad fuel issue, and if so besides the bad fuel in the tank I would be ready to rebuild the Carb so that things flow as needed thru the internal passages of the Carb!
this assumes that you have pulled some plugs and not found them gas fouled!

the timing wouldn't change from sitting. if it has points you're probably due to set the dwell and adjust the timing anyway. as stated before, you need to check the basics.

The carb is probably clogged up with blobs of jelly from the ethanol/water material. Think about dropping the tank, flushing the tank and fuel lines and rebuilding the carb.
    Maybe simpler, but, who knows.

    Good luck

Like I said, it could be several things. You have to test to figure out what. If the gas is E10, it is almost certainly bad. Siphon the tank and put fresh gas in. Then pull a spark plug and have a look. When I have had gas go bad, it looks OK, smells a bit funny, and it fouls the plugs black. Next step is to check for spark. Pull a wire off a plug, position it near a ground, crank the engine and look for a spark. Then take the air cleaner off, block the choke open, and quickly open the throttle. Look for two streams of gas coming from the accelerator pump. If you have spark and good fuel, replace the plugs and it should start.

Put a timing light on it to atleast confirm that you have spark that's good enough to light off fuel!
