    Default Factory Stage 2 heads

If one was able to find a set. What would Stage 2 factory iron heads (usable) be worth. Or what price range would one expect to pay

ANY PHOTOS or INFO OF STAGE 2 IRON HEADS OR CARS THAT RAN THEM ARE APPRECIATED. PLEASE ADD THEM

Does that mean that the set that Bob Kent offered me back in 1981 for $250 was a good deal
This is meant to be kicked.

Ask Duane....supposed to be 150-200 sets/pairs made in 72 for dealer "counter" sales. Probably less than half that amount left. Unless you are building/restoring a factory appearing drag car for 72, get TA or Bulldog heads. They are much better, cheaper and lighter than original Stg2 heads.

Thanks, Yes I understand that about the other heads. I was considering the nostalgic route, but its only in the thought Stage right now.

I have a set of cast iron Stage II heads (oval port)on a fairly stout motor. The heads were extensively reworked and flow over 300. The engine is complete, with all the mods and goodies. Horsepower calculations done on the Dyno PC programs suggest well over 600 HP, but again, it's just numbers and not the real world, and it's going in a 65 'lark street/drag car. Sometime back, approximately a year ago, I was offered 4500 for the heads from a So. Cal. Buick Nostalgia nut. Obviously I turned it down, and obviously I should have thought more about it, as my friends tell me I could/should have purchased two sets of aluminum heads. But, the nostalgia thing really sticks with me.
I hope you find a set, they are extremely hard to locate now. There was a set of the "D" port heads on eBay sometime back, and it seems to me they went for around 2500 or something like that.

    Default Factory Stage 2 heads

I have had a set since 1980.They had been worked by Crane and had 1.8 exhaust valves and triple springs.I haven't cosidered selling them, because my first GS is a 72,that I am redoning, with a Charlie Evans engine.I do know it would take BIG $$$$ to buy them,do to being had to get ahold of and having them along time. There are better heads, yes;but not built by Buick. Good luck finding some. Mike Nussell

Alan, that's what I've heard also. Another question is how many oval port as opposed to the D shape port. Is there a consensus here?

I am not absolutely sure bout this, I think they cast up to 125 sets but only 75 to 80 sets were good. They did have issues while casting and some came out extremely porous.

I do know for sure they didn't make any with the D shape exhaust port. The confusion there is some of the racers "in the know" would fill them in with braze to make them D shape to gain some extra hp.

Didn't Mike over at TA have (or has) an unmolested set and that's what he used to cast/get measurements from, the aluminum Stage IIs. Seems I heard that from someone.

I can remmeber in the late 90's. A guy was at the nats with a set in the orginal boxes. Price he never did.
I was always under the impression there was two version made. One set with verticle bosses and one without. 25 sets of the first and 50 of the second.

If I remember right Mike got the blueprints from Buick on the Stage 2 heads.

While visiting Jim Bell and picking up parts (back when he was the only Buick aftermarket show in town) I asked him if he had any Stage 2 heads. He said he didn't have any left. The last set went with the old Reynolds car when Bob Kent bought it from Pop. While rooting around in the back where all the heads were stacked guess what was laying in amongst all the castings..........a virgin set of Stage 2 heads. The valve seats & spring seats had never been machined. These were basically raw castings with just the deck, intake and exhaust surfaces faced. They did have a couple variations of the heads, had to do with the placement of the soft plugs, with the vertical bosses and without.
