Default Procharger project progress

I am finally making progress again and hope to at least have the procharger turning over by next Monday. I think I will just wire the bypass open while I sort things out.

The fuel system is done. I used a Sx Performance pump, -8 to a RobbMc bypass regulator, -10 back to the tank. The key to the system is the check valve right at the tank since the fuel pump could not be mounted below the tank. It works so well that the system holds 2 psi pressure when it is off.

RobbMc regulatror. I run just one -8 line to the carb because the log is -8. I think this is just a neater system than running 2 -6 lines.

The cool custom carb hat is one that Mark made me. It is a stuggle to get all this stuff to fit under a stock hood line.

I would not use that carb hat. So much research has gone into carb hats and how they can affect the tune, or possibly even keep you from ever getting your tune right......

I'd recommend the EV hat, or the CSU hat. They both have been proven.

That hat is the only thing that will fit under the hood. Not going to run a lot of boost. I have less than 3" of clearance.

Took a few steps forward again. Motor is back in with the rebuilt heads. Now running stiffer valve springs and Cometic gaskets. Stupid details I did not deal with.. cannot see timing marks! So I have to make up a new pointer for the right side of the motor.

Blower belts and tensioner seem to work just fine. Allignment and tension were good at 2000 rpms. Now to get the timing right and get the bypass valve setup.

Here are a few new pictures. This is the power steering pump setup.

Here is the oil supply with the accumulator. I was worried about bleed off of pressure by the blower but does not seem to be a problem.

A few pictures to show alignment. Close to finished. Also picture of the new battery. Need the extra room to run the intercooler. Cranks the motor over fine. Does not have as much reserve as a normal battery.

How'd you progress on welding the sump to the bottom of the tank- I was thinking about buying a new tank to avoid the "Boom!" factor!! And how did you flatten out the ribs?

Thanks Devon, seems like walking through a swamp.

Robert,
Not that big a deal, empty the tank then rinse it with soap and water a few times. Then you can cut out the section for the sump and dry the tank out. Do all your welding. I like to put in a can of Marvel and use a few cans or fuel additive in the first tank.

Finally blowing some air!! Have the intercooler back in and the plumbing to the cooler done. Ran it around the block and all of the belts seem to running true. It is amazing what the intercooler does. Put you hand on the pipes coming out of the blower and it is HOT. Grab the outlet side pipes and its like they are refrigerated.

Things left to do. Finish plumbing to the carb, set up the boost/vacuum lines for the regulator and the boost retard. Plumb the bypass back to the intake side of the blower.

Light at the end of the tunnel..... hope it's not a train!

Is that still a Buick power steering pump?

Did you change pulleys?

Not a Buick pump, it is a Sweet pump from a circle track car. I am using stock pulleys and had an adaptro made to use the blower pulley from an LT1 procharger setup. I worked really hard to get the blower low and have a short belt. The belt is only 55 inches.

I am sure you could adapt a pump from an LT1 Camaro and not have to use AN lines. You would have to get a belt pulley for it. I may try to get a smaller pulley for the power steering pump so it works a little better at low rpms.
